Anybody using Zilla Cabs?

Post by Ronnie Robinson » Fri May 23, 2014 9:54 am

I'm looking at getting a Zilla Cab built with the Orange tolex to match my RV50. Is anyone using one? Any thoughts on how they sound?...there seems to be a lot of positive reviews on Zilla Cabs in general and the model will probably be an unloaded Studio Pro.
What I like is :-
1) That they are good quality cabs, which should sound excellent and are made in the UK.
2)I already have speakers - a V30 and a G30H and they can be bought 'Unloaded' so that saves money
3) The studio Pro has a movable panel at the back so can be closed or open backed
4)Can be built using Orange tolex.

Anyone using them? How do they compare withother Cabs you've tried?
Cheers

I have the Zilla Super Fatboy 2x12"

Using it with my Rocker30C, it sounds very good.
I swapped the speaker in my Rocker for a Celestion Creamback 65, the Zilla is loaded with V30's.
The superfatboy sounds more towards a Bogner oversized 2x12", but for almost half the price...

Sounds great .....what (in my head) puts me off about the super fat boy is that there will be a lot of bottom end - the RV needs somrthing thats going to assist cutting through a band mix. Is that that the case ? Is it to the detriment of other higher frequencies? The utube videos Ive seen of the Super fat boy do sound excellent.

I have the Modern 2x12 with two V30s.

It's a really great sounding cab, well made and it takes anything I've thrown at it – even two-octave down subsonic madness – without any issues. The casters make it incredibly portable too…

It's also very pretty.

I tried the Super Fatboy and the Fatboy next to eachother.
The Fatboy itself is alot tighter without losing he lows. The Super Fatboy can sound "boomy" with some amps, if that what's you're thinking :)
My cab is convertible to an open back, which helps to cut through in some situations.
