Dark Terror through PPC412hp-8, Am I doing something wrong?
I'm buying a Dark Terror, I know I love the sound and I also found a PPV412HP-8 for around 550$ (good deal). Will I regret buying a high power cabinet and running a 15/7 watt Amp through it?

The hp8 has Celestion G12K100 speakers, which are pretty neutral sounding to me. Not like a PA speaker but a neutral guitar speaker. The standard PPC414 cab is loaded with Vintage 30 speakers. I personally would take the G12k100s over Vintage 30s but neither are my go-to speaker. I did have a G12k100 in my PPC112 for a short time. Sounded pretty good with my Tiny Terror.
As for the power handling, I wouldn't worry about it. A Dark Terror won't be able to push any 412 hard enough to get a lot of speaker break-up so it really comes down to which speaker you'd prefer.

It'll be fine as long as you don't wanna build a full stack. You can't connect two 8 Ohm cabs to the Dark Terror...Kenji wrote:I'm buying a Dark Terror, I know I love the sound and I also found a PPV412HP-8 for around 550$ (good deal). I run an OR15 through a 2X12 with a 140w rating and it sounds awesome to me. As long as it sounds good, it is good.

So do I and I fully agree I was reading this article https://www.soundonsound.com/sos/feb12/ ... eakers.htm about speaker designs and this guy from Celestion is saying that the speakers are designed to breakup on low power. Check it out, it's really interesting.hitgar wrote:I run an OR15 through a 2X12 with a 140w rating and it sounds awesome to me. As long as it sounds good, it is good.

It's not crazy. The PPC112 actually came loaded with a G12K-100 when it was first introduced and it was intended by Orange to be the ideal cab for the Tiny Terror. If you don't need/want the speaker to color your sound as much as most Celestions do, the G12K-100 is a good option. Speaker breakup can be appealing for some styles (mainly Classic Rock), but it is not at all necessary (or desired) for newer/heavier stuff.
One warning though - the Dark Terror will sound huge and quite loud through a 4x12 cab with reasonably efficient speakers, so don't plan on this being your bedroom rig. You'll have a hard time not wanting to crank it.

That's the same reasoning I give my wife when I've got my OR50 cranked in the house when she's home.Randy Bass wrote:One warning though - the Dark Terror will sound huge and quite loud through a 4x12 cab with reasonably efficient speakers, so don't plan on this being your bedroom rig.
