NGD!

Post by Bensnake » Wed Mar 12, 2014 7:28 am

Today it'll probably arrive; my new SG Standard 2013 in heritage cherry finish. I've never owned an SG before so I'm really excited! :D

Pics will (of course!) follow...

Welcome the wonderful world of SG´s!

It´s my all time favorite model and I have owned a few. Right now I´ve settled for two SG Standard (from 1995 and 2009) but I always keep my eyes open for one of those nice 70´s SG´s in natural finnish or maybe an Iommi signature model :)

You're gonna love it! The neck will seem top-heavy and too far to the left at first....give it a couple days and you will fnd "normal" guitars weird forever  . Sg's are (IMHO) the best model ever made.

There's nothing else like an SG. Once you get used to the different feel, they practically play themselves. It should look awesome in your Orange family photo.

Could be. And the 'best' one I've played wasn't even a Gibson but a friend's Gordon Smith SG. They are neat because GS have the habit of taking classic designs (usually Gibsons) and 'improving' them. Guess what they did with the SG? Shot the neck about a fret further into the body and sorted the balance thing. (With those cutaways you can still easily get to the top fret BTW.) 8)

When I was looking to buy a GS I was originally planning on one of their SGs, but ended up with my Graduate 60 Slimline, a thin bodied single cut LP style. This mate of mine fell in love with it and ended up finding a GS SG himself, and his is easily the most responsive solid body I have ever played, resonance, sustain and playability are all phenomenal. The way this thing interacts with a good amp is totally addictive.

Bensnake I hope yours is a good 'un too. Love that finish!

Congrats!

Agree with the best guitar ever!

I have several myself and have not fell in love with any other guitar like I have the SG. Wendigo's statement about the neck is 100% spot on. I experienced that exact feeling when I first got my SG 61 RI now I think all other necks fall well short.

And I didn't realize that so many of you that I seem to be on the same plane with amplifier wise also felt so highly about the SG as do I. We should all get together and have a beer sometime, and we should also post some pics in this thread of our SG's.

Yes pics!

This thread demands pics! Either that or you're all playing ukeleles. :P

Very nice! That's the same finish I have, only mine is a '96. I do love that they changed back to the half pickguard style. Here's an older pic of mine right after I had the p-rail put in. All the knobs are disconnected, and the neck volume knob is the one that controls the pup volume. And the 3 way switch selects the pup between HB and P90.

Errrg...burn!

Oh BTW get used to not gripping your guitar neck too tight: the SG is a guitar that demands a light touch to stay in tune, especially down by the nut. Also think about "top wrapping" the strings...I did, and the guitar sounded and played better/stayed in tune better instantly.
