Saw Earth Crisis Friday - X Shaped Guitar Cab Content

Post by myboss57 » Mon Mar 10, 2014 2:39 pm

My girlfriend is a long time Earth Crisis fan and they played a venue in Baltimore on Friday so we went. I love me some of that 90s metal core - Strongarm and Shai Hulud are two bands I grew up on - but never really listened to EC.

Anyways, both guitarists had these cabs: http://dbinstrumentamp.com/drupal/conte ... g-products" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and also, "XXX" printed on their truss rod covers.

The cabs sounded good, from what I could tell, with the mix and everything. But really strange, never seen anything like that before!

It probably doesn't sound too different, maybe just a bit tighter bass like that site says.

The Trace Elliott 3x12" from this thread should provide much better dispersion:

I've seen other weird cabs, check out these 3rd Power Cabs: http://guitarless.com/2009/10/3rd-power ... aker-cabs/

Huh. Interesting... I'd have to hear it to believe it.

Just a gimmick because of their straight edge message. I highly doubt the cabs offer anything another cab couldn't do.

Those triangular cabs are strange! I wonder how true that is about them eliminating the "beaming" aspects of box cabs?

Yeah, the X cabs were definitely a gimmick, and from what I could hear (the place they played is not the best venue for good acoustics) they sounded good. I didn't get up close to the stage because it was Earth Crisis, and the crowd was insane and I didn't feel like getting beat up in the mosh pit. :lol:

Interesting concepts.

We all say the open back feels the room more, PPC is very directional, there's no reason why other design wouldn't bring other benefits or cons to the plate.

I'm intrigued by this triangular cabs - however I suspect their main downfall, however good they sound, is their impractical shape. And it is confusing, how would you call that arrangement in the picture? 3 * PPC312 = more then a full stack, yet not even a full stack.

I'm waiting for the L shape 412 cab, with a head designed to fit on the horizontal part of the L. That and DiabloS needs it to complement his cab assortment. :)
