Orange OR15 with pedals, fuzz etc.

Post by jd261808 » Mon Feb 24, 2014 5:13 pm

How well does the Orange OR15 do with pedals? Mostly fuzz or overdrive pedals? Should they be used with clean or dirty channel for best results?

Erm...the OR15 is a single channel amp... which kinda suggests that you don't actually have one yet?
If that's the case, I would wait to see how it works for you without anything up front to start with and then maybe give us a better idea of what you're trying to achieve.

You might be surprised how much gain is available on the OR15. You might also be surprised that you have purchased an amp that doesn't need pedals to sound good.

I have found mine sounded great slightly dirty and then just used a clean boost or slighty dirty OD pedal to push it over the edge when needed.

I was a heavy pedal user before my OR15 and JR Terror, but I have learned how to use the volume on my guitar to clean things up and rely mostly on the amp for dirty tones. I am VERY happy I finally made the discovery. The responsiveness of just using the amp is fantastic once you figure out how to best use it, and I love how it will respond to playing dynamics. Very few pedals I have tried can equal that.

Oh I know how good the amp sounds without pedals. I was just curious on some of the other fuzzed out tones you could get. Thanks for the info though.

I've been kicking my various black arts toneworks fuzz pedals on through my OR 15 for different textures.

I got an Or15 recently, and BTW I LOVE It. Used in a band jam/practice the other night and it kicked all kinds of ass.

My setting was gain around 2:00 and I was running volume on 15w setting just under 12n to keep up with Bass/Drummer and had no issues.

To your specific question--I was hitting the front with an 808TS to kick it over the top for solo or heavy chugging riffs....and I also used my BAT Pharaoh Fuzz...with the fuzz dialed way back, and the volume on the pedal less than 12:00. The toffee was in the middle spot (no diodes I believe) and it layed just a nice fuzz thick over the top of the amps tone. I thought it sounded really cool.

Warning-- I run a noise gate direct and another one in the loop and it was dead quiet. Doubt it would be so w/o running that Fuzz.

Thru the night I was going amp dirt only, then various times using the TS and the Fuzz and I never touched the amp settings as mentioned above.

It works man.
