Why dont you use vinyl tape, like the "Orange" tape. and cut through very carefully with a sharp xacto. This tape is cheap and have the huge advantage to respect the support. It won't remove your previous coat.
Billy as a art teacher maybe have smart advises?

I've ordered exactly what I think is needed for this job now - I'll just wait a couple of day until it get here.

I'm quietly optimistic.

In the meantime I've started spray painting the fuzz factory box in chrome........ I just hope the new contact paper will enable me to pull off my "great" deco ideas!!!!

Shiny!!!
What about using transparent clear printer sticker paper?
I used this for my headstock logo, and it's durable.

There's that and waterslide paper as options too.

Both are somewhat limiting though - if you try them in colour, you then need a neutral back ground colour of sorts as the main colour of the pedal will distort the colours of the waterslide / sticker.

And my printer can't print metallic green or red or gold colours....

You can call me stubborn too, but I'd like to master that bl##dy f###ing stencil business too.

Otherwise I'd have to say I give up. I may yet do, just not quite now........ ;)

By the way Jondog, if you are reading , any news on your amp?

Alright......

Finally received the clear low tack book cover plastic and had some time......

So I got myself to cut a new stencil quickly using the old one.

Straight away that material is MUCH better. It does stick to the pedal really nicely, it's reasonnably easy to cut.

amateur

noun [C] uk /ˈæm.ə.tər/ us /-t̬ʃɚ/

C1 a person who takes part in an activity for pleasure, not as a job: This tennis tournament is open to both amateurs and professionals.

Compare
professional adjective

C1 disapproving someone who does not have much skill in what they do: I won't be giving them any more work - they're a bunch of amateurs.

It worked much better.
So i applied the stencil clear coated, then sprayed my chrome spray.

Then I peeled the stencil off before it dried, and it slipped my fingers - - and I think marked the paint. Then I brought it to the kitchen and since my fingered were full of chrome paint I didnt want to leave on my nice blue, I tried to handle best I could...... only to drop it FACE F*&%ING DOWN on the kitchen table. More marks on the paint.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

But that's where I had my genius idea. Let's clear coat a little my nice new messed up stencil (clear coat sort of melts everthing a bit and is wonderful at clearing off small marks.

Well that totally dulled my nice clean chrome

Image

I then read on the chrome spray can - do not lacquer.

Anyway, I still had a tiny bleed in the high right corner were my masking tape wasn't masking as much as I thought it would.

I think I've learnt some lessons today. Not totally sure which they are. I'll probably ponder that over a pint of whisky later.

I was gonna clear coat the totally chrome pedal to the left too........ ah ah ah...... Plans are changing somewhat.

Mental note: I shall now buy silver metallic paint from now on, like everybody else does, and will stop trying to be clever.

And in further news, for those of you that do take a kick from my failings, I have bought enough stuff to make a Big Muff Pi kit and a woolly mammoth clone for my niece.

Cheers! I must say that the picture does it a few favours. None of the bottom part.of the letters are very neat, there's some smudging due to the stencil slipping from my fingers whist pulling it.

But it's a lot better that what I've had before so I'll keep it.
In anyways, it'll only get damaged when I start stomping on it.

And yes, the reverb uses the belton brick 2, and it sounds pretty good too. It has a damping control that is quite like a tone.control.really, it can make it sound very bright and snappy.

Thanks Randy. :D

I was hoping one or two Forumites might might enjoy the DIY meanderings. I sure learn a bit along the way.....!!!!!

I'm in a quandary now. I love the chrome paint, but it marks just by looking at it.
Now I know that I can't clear coat it, I'm really wondering if I should try to paint it in metallic silver instead. I mean it s a Stomp box, it ll probably look sh#t even faster that the others if I can't protect it at all.

Or should I suck it and go with the chrome look anyway?

I wonder if waterbase coat could not be applied on the chrome. The lack of solvent could maybe prevent the chrome layer to spill over.
One way to do, test (not on a pedal, on test samples).

Not sure Hubaxe - but I'm not gonna find out.
I did try clear lacquer on the chopping board I use to prop up my pedals during painting, even when dry, the chrome turned to a dull grey.

Quite funny, on the can, it says: " for decorative use" only. What they meant to say was that anything coming withing an inch of it will damage it FOREVER.
Great shame, I thought that looked great.

And I didn't really want to buy anymore supplies - I do enjoy the hobby, but still have to make sure it doesn't cost too much either.

Glad you find it interesting - thank you!

So in new development, I'm gonna add a bit if harmless spam in this thread:

I'm selling a can of chrome spray paint, probably 1/3 full, may be more. It's got a killer look, is incredibly tough and durable, it will withstand the end of the world easy. PM me, I'll do you a good price. :)

Well, I've decided that Chrome is a bit yesterday like ( ) and reprised the pedal. Sanded it a bit with 400 grit and went to town.

I primed the new pedals too.

I can start thinking about the art schemes again.

I think the fuzz factory will be aztec gold (more shiny brass really, old Ford colour), the muff green, and the woolly mammoth probably purple - it's for my niece, but she isn't a girlie girl, so I think purple will be nice.
