The Guitar Cable Debate

Post by Sergeantsnowball » Fri Feb 07, 2014 6:09 am

It has been a topic of major controversy in some deep, far crevices of the Internet whether or not various types of "high end" guitar cables make any major contribution to your tone. As such, I present you this: The $6000 guitar cable. I truly have no words to describe how utterly ridiculous this is; see for yourself.

Note that this isn't meant to be a debate of prices, but more to show you all just how far people take some things.

That's the kind of thing I was on about in the other thread, but just beyond reason this time. "Dead quiet...incredible signal to noise ratio". Huh? What about noise from the amp and pickups etc? Wouldn't that just ruin your incredibly low noise floor. What an effin' joke. Besides, I WANT my guitar to be noisy...it's an electric guitar, not a glockenspiel!

Yeah, bonkers!

I blame the 'hi-fi' bods for starting it all. Glad to see my favourite Amazon customer cable reviews are still coming in. 13+ grand a pair? Well, they'd BETTER be good for that, right?
If you're ever really bored then hit p.1 and see how far you get. (You might be surprised, some pretty funny popoopshit there!)

Very very mad indeed, like anyone who might actually buy these products. Yeah, it's electric guitar, about as 'hi- fi' as an AM radio, and all the better for it.

(Of course bass might be a different matter!)

The funniest thing, to me, about a $6000 cable, is that 90% of the rig's people are playing out there don't even add up to nearly that - including the guitar, speakers, amp, and any effects. That's just nuts.

In any line of business there's always someone out to make a quick buck...

but that doesn't mean cables don't differ in sound or quality. My 2c

Just been reading about these new analogue fibre optic cables that were previewed at NAMM. First thought, probably be pretty bright sounding, second thought, how much?? Not for sale yet so no price available but I fear not cheap. Probably not $6000 though, mad!!
