ohms question... I forget
Ok, my friend is mentally ill and diving into a bunch of nitty gritty questions that will lead to no purposeful conclusion if history has any memory. Anyway, do some people play out of their 8ohm tap into a 16ohm cab to get some kind of sonic difference. Or, is it the other way around. And, is it the output transformers that get the hit or are the speakers possibly negatively impacted (or both). I know this is in old threads I bet, I just was looking for the quick and easy condensed version.

Surely mis - matching the cab ohms to the output
is only asking for trouble?

If the amp is being used as intended by the manufacturer (proper number of tubes and proper tube type), then run it off the proper OT tap, end of story. You will get a small sonic difference from running off the wrong tap. But in a properly designed amp, it's not going to sound better, and it will be at the expense of stress on the OT and/or tubes.
The speakers see no adverse affects from OT mismatch.

There is nothing like a fender clean, but there is nothing like an orange crunch
