Demo of Vintage VS Modern Oranges (OR120 / OR50 TH100 /TH50)
I think this has aroused interest in many, so here's Tubetone Russia's Youtube demo on the subject

The clips are quite short, but it is still somewhatinformative. All are sounding great!

Thanks for sharing, I thought this was really cool!
Even though it looks professionally made, I wish they had edited this a bit differently. There wasn't enough consistency with the riffs on each take of the different amps and the clips were too short. Still very cool though, I just wish it was edited better to really take in the differences. I still managed to get a rough idea though and the sound was really well recorded!

How to make a misleading gear demonstration and comparison in 4 easy to follow steps!;
1) Play different riffs on each piece of gear, consistency is BAD.
2) Add a backing track to muffle every subtle characteristic of the gear being demonstrated.
3) Use only one type of guitar from one manufacturer.
4) Play only one style of music from one genre.

OR120 definitely sounds the 'naughtiest' - esp at around 0.45

Of course, to get that kind of drive out of an OR120, that beast is cranking! Still, the OR120 was by far the thickest and fuzziest of the bunch. Obviously my personal fav.

They did all 4 and the result = almost worthlessGray wrote:How to make a misleading gear demonstration and comparison in 4 easy to follow steps!;

I'd disagree on the first two points here...
1) I think all the riffs were covered pretty fairly between the amps..
2) and its more important to me how an amp actually sounds when it's making music rather than when played alone.
Can't really argue against points 3&4 and I did think this genre suited the OR120 and TV50 best IMO.

Well, besides the obvious thats been stated already, what I could hear was the OR120 was the thickest and most present, the Thunderverb the darkest, the OR50 had more mids coming through and the TH100 and the Thunderverb CH.A were kind of neutral between the others.

Once In found what I was trying to listen too I could hear the differences. Barely. To just listen to it, it all sounded the same.msmith4432 wrote:That's pretty good, I could barely tell anything.Jondog wrote:Well, besides the obvious thats been stated already, what I could hear was the OR120 was the thickest and most present, the Thunderverb the darkest, the OR50 had more mids coming through and the TH100 and the Thunderverb CH.A were kind of neutral between the others.
I've been playing around with several dirt pedals lately that give me similar tones and I've been trying to pick the differences. Maybe I've trained my ear a little bit.

After another shot I could tell that Personally I like the th100 the least, but the differences are minuscule in the way they did it. Have you ever seen the Hagerty's youtube videos. That guy doe a similar thing but he docent use the backing track and you can actually tell the differences.

I dislike all demos with backing tracks as well as shredding and just lead licks.

Re: Demo of Vintage VS Modern Oranges (OR120 / OR50 TH100 /T
I think its a harder test for an amp to see how it cuts through with real drums along side and I think the vintage Orange was the clear winner in this department.
If on the other hand you wanted a more 'gainy' sound at moderate levels the OR120 would undoubtedly come last...
Could you get that extra gain back with pedals and still sound as organic as a cranked OR50? ....possibly, maybe.
