New Amp Day !

Post by swara » Sat Dec 07, 2013 9:28 pm

So I've been lurkin' about….
After reading the well informed answers to mine (and several others') posts, I went and ordered
a head and cab.
Before beaming an announcement I chose to wait until it arrived.
It was a long wait; it was on the slow boat to be sure.
Saved a bunch so that was good…

Anyhoo, yesterday it arrived :-)
The chosen amp?

A CS-50 and a 2x12 closed back.

This amp is incredible! A huge variety of sounds from a very simple control layout.
I can get it to sound like an OR80 in it's "sweet spot" as well as some nice "almost cleans" similar to
a '63 Tremolux I had years ago.
I like that it's not too gainy like I found the AD's to be, more like a good working 70's OR Overdrive.
The other thing is how well it responds to the guitar and adjustments of the guitar's controls.
When rolling off the volume on my White Falcon, I don't seem to loose as much presence.
Which also reminds me to mention the amp's presence control; way more usable all the way around the dial.

Then there's the "Class A" mode- Yes, some say it's not a "true" class A but what ever, it really brings out another character
in the amp.
It actually gets "THE" AC30 tone better than my AC30CC!
And with a much better and easier tone circuit, so I get way more flexibility tonally than I ever could with the AC30 with all the switches to get every sound they could make(but not the "holy grail" AC30 tone….)

If there can be anything said about a shortcoming, there are two things.
The first actually might not be one at all.
As many have said, there's not a lot of headroom for a 50 watt amp.
True, but the louder 50 watt amps to me seem to be extremely shrill.
The CS50 get's you more in the chest than ears.
So it seems to have a better bottom end and that makes up for it.
Though I would welcome a 100 watt version ;-)

The other "shortcoming" is merely one of preference- I don't care for a midrange knob! LOL!
It crowds the panel! LOL!

Pics. We want pics. Until we have pics, for all I know you have bought a rusty toaster.

Seriously. I'm pretty desperate for pics of that CS50.....
