AD140 sound
There's a local listing for an AD140 and I'm considering purchasing it to augment my TH100. There are no clips on the AD140 that I've located on youtube that show the full range of the AD140. I'm thinking of using it for mid-gain where the TH100 is great for Hi gain and I'd like to leave it dialed in for that. I still need a mid gain sound. Would the AD140 work for this? Also, would the AD140 do Hi gain?
Re: AD140 sound
Get it. Granted you can afford it. In all honesty, it's one of my favorite Orange amps ever made. I really love the whole AD series amps the most. If I were to find one today for a good price, I would get it.
The AD140 really shines at creating a dark, mid-gain, fat crunch with a gorgeous airiness and richness in the tone. I've seen a lot of bands that use hi-gain play them as well. Underoath is one that comes to mind. Also Mars Volta.
Compared to the AD30... it's totally different. Much larger transformers in it. Much more clean headroom. thicker, tighter, more fuller tone.
With the two channels in the AD140 being VERY similar, you may find you prefer it over your RV100. You can set one channel more mid-gain and the other higher gain.

I that the TH100. But thanks, I think I've negotiated a good price on it. I means I'll need another 412 though. Do it every end??
Re: AD140 sound
I believe there is something you can get to basically A/B the amps together and switch between them, playing into one cab. Granted, you need to be playing two different monstrous heads at one time. Haha

I'm between the AD140 and a second 412 for my OR15. Both will come eventually. Will probably go with the AD140 for now and a Radial Headbone.

Re: AD140 sound
To me the AD140 has the perfect mid-gain sound, e.g for bluesy rock.. or stoner, as it also has a 'fuzzy' nature when the gain is turned up - quite loose bottom.
Sounds very full, 3D, 'woody' and thick to me.
Here are two clips of my bandmate's AD140:
w/ Fender Telecaster Deluxe, 50W Fanes, SM57 (not loud, you could talk over it - don't know the settings..)

Listen to 'Ebb' (one mic only, first AD140, paired with Matamp GTOL 120)

Not that one. The one I found is actually in good shape and has a lift top roadcase. I'm trying to find a time to meet up with the guy, but buying it would require me to sell my OR15, which I'm not fully prepared to do.

You can always (easily) find another OR15!
If the AD140 seems good and the price too than I'd jump on it. Superb amps, different league...

I played a gig last night where one of the guitar players of the main act had that setup, an AD140 and TH100 a plugged into two old Marshall cabs. I don't know if he played them simultaneously all the time, but it sounded really great. It got me thinking of the sound Angus had on the AC/DC "Live" record but a bit fatter sounding.
