HNOR15D....

Post by Companyman » Thu Aug 15, 2013 11:56 am

Just picked up an OR15 and I am in love! I had a Rocker 30 in the past buthad to sell it along with all of my other gear when I lost my job a few years ago... I loved that amp but always wished it had an effects loop for delay and reverb. Flash forward I found a job and needed to get a new Orange, when I saw the OR15 I knew that it would be aeesome and it is!

Congrats, glad things are working out better now! Sad to hear you had to let your R30 go, though

I am very much in honeymoon stage but this amp is exactly what I hoped it would be! The Rocker 30 was the ultimate gig amp loud, channel switching, compact (though not very light!) but really needed either reverb or better an effects loop. The OR15 is a different beast EL84's to the R30's EL34's, I have always been partial to the EL84's. Crank the master and use the guitar volume for cleanup, a delay and boost in the loop is all I need to gig, perfect!

The OR15 won't replace your big boy Oranges, but for home playing/recording/rehearsal/small gigs it is great!

Same here, that SL5 seems to be a very good combo, but a bit more expensive...

I have spent every evening playing this amp and spend the whole day thinking about playing it more! It has been a while since a piece of gear has inspired me, the OR15 sure does!

Owned a marshall SL5 for 2 days and I took it back, IMO go the OR15 because it kills it

Yeah, but it takes a steady hand, because even in 7 watt mode the sweet spot lies on the edge of no sound and too loud for my semi-patient neighbors...the 5751 helped tame things a fair bit for good lower volume sounds. With the 12ax7 I think this amp is designed to choogle right along out of the gate for gig volumes, I am only running a 1x12 Orange cab, 2 or four more speakers in the equation would be delicious I'm sure! I am between projects and the walls are thin so quality low volume is what I was after, nice to know I can get some gig roar when I need it!

Oh so true! The addition of a second PPC112 to my OR15 made a massive amount of difference - you will not be disappointed. Mine was delivered as soon as they hit the UK - so I'm way past the honeymoon period and cannot ever see myself parting with it. I've found it's mellowed slightly with age - in a good way.

I actually quite like it at low volume but agree with you - steady hand required. Glad your enjoying this often overlooked amp.
