Guitar Shipping Boxes?

Post by misterMagoo » Tue Jul 23, 2013 11:24 pm

Where do you buy these for a good price?

UPS Store?
Elsewhere?

I asked the local music store and they want $12 for them!

Guitar Center throws them away daily. Just ask one of their entry-level employees if they have any empty ones in the back that haven't been crushed yet.

Worse case scenario, $12 isn't that bad... new boxes aren't that cheap either!

I thought $12 wasn't too bad either. Not free, but not really expensive.

If you're selling on ebay, you can include that price in your shipping costs. It's not only for the actual postage, but packaging, insurance and such.

$12 is a good price. Ups store wanted to charge me $75 to make a box to ship my guitar in, I told them forget it. So as others have said check guitar center and if that does not work, the $12 is not a bad price I don't think you will find it any cheaper

I bought one at a UPS store once. It was rather expensive, like around $20. It was a really nice box, but, and a big but, the thing was so big that it was to the point that it would have pushed my package up to an oversized box and cost a fortune to ship. So I had to measure it and cut it down some to get it under a certain size. So, if you buy one, make sure to measure all dimensions and plug it into a shipping calculator before you pack the guitar. I think mine may have been for an acoustic or something. It was a PITA.

Just do what I do....buy more guitars! UPS was on the expensive side and oversized as someone else pointed out. Going to GCenter and asking for extras is a great idea. $12 is not bad for nice guitar box.

As said above, if you EVER think you might sell a guitar one day, just remember to ask everytime you pop in your local music store for a box. eventually they will have one. Or ask the GC guy when they usually get shipments and ask them to set one aside for you and show up that day to get it.

The reason I say "ever" is that you can always store a box in your attic/basement until you need it, but if you wait until the last minute, you might end up overpaying at the UPS store or elsewhere. Best to have and not need than need and not have
