New Pickup Day!

Post by Jondog » Tue Jul 16, 2013 9:28 pm

Just received this today. GFS Fatbody tele neck. I've had the bridge version for 6 months or so in my 52 Hot rod tele and have been so pleased with it decided to do the neck. Have a P94 in there now which sounds great distorted but lacks good clean sounds. Best bang for buck pickups.

I had some GFS Ric HBs in my old Ric. That's a great company with great products, and the prices are awesome.

As far as I'm concerned, the quality is on par with higher priced companies other than the packaging.

most definitely it is! I've only had the experience with the one set I ordered a while back, but they were excellent quality. And everything else I've ever read about them has said pretty much the same.

Expectations.....exceeded! :D This is a great sounding pickup!! Very full, has some bark and bite to it, very clear played clean and dirty. I wish I had a recorded clip of the P94 I had in before, and the mini humbucker that was in the guitar originally before that. Difference is night and day! I knew right away when I plugged in and hit the first note while the selector was in the middle position, instantly noticed a huge difference. Love these Fatbody pickups. Broke a string while playing I was having so much fun.

Nice! Glad to hear that worked out. Did you wire it all yourself?

Yes. Was waiting on a new bakelite pickguard which arrived yesterday as I routed the last one to fit the P94.

Sounds ace!

I wouldn't mind buying a modding axe one day, and just swap gear an pick ups and try different wirings.....

May be one day!

Cool, sucks you had to route the old pickguard, but them's the breaks sometimes.

No big deal. I actually like the new one better. Only cost me $15 plus shipping. It's sent unfinished and I like the unfinished look, kind of a matte finish.

I kinda wish they'd do an MFD for the ASAT's. I love the MFD's with the G&L, but they only two companies that do MFD's (Rio & Nordstrom) aren't cheap and it'd be cool to try something else without blowing a couple hundred bucks (which I don't have).

This practice is often referred to as 'polishing a turd' .
