Ah, that'll be why the website was offline earlier.

I think the new bits might need some cleaning up on the technical side. The CR120 head runs into 16 or 8 ohms. That is sensible - it'll let you use the standard Orange cabs and maybe upgrade to a valve amp later.

The 120W combo though has
2×12″ 60W, 16 Ohm Voice of the World speakers
Oops, that'd be an 8 ohm load then. No way could you use the
Extension Cabinet Options (Combos)

1 x 16 Ohm
option.

I take it they (hopefully!) got the amps right - and the website wrong as usual. :?

Ho hum...

+1
Many amp companies are going this route now. Marshall, Fender, and Blackstar all have their professional solid state series. At least now there is one by Orange instead of everyone asking if the others can sound like an Orange.

I think it's a really cool idea for the musicians that want orange amps and tone, for the prices they listed. The head is almost 8 times cheaper than the rockerverb 100. Might even be a cool backup amp for the rockerverb if for some reason you couldn't use it.
I wonder if they'll make more of these for bassists? Something to think about I guess.

I know I'll be much more satisfied with my rv100 than I would with the new crush head just based on the fact that mybhead is all tube. ive tried out Marshall, fender and some od the line 6 solid states and they dont even Come close to the rockerverb. Hopefully Orange can make these solid state amps sound awesome though. if so i'd really consider picking one up for practices so i wouldnt have to worry about my expensive head! haha.
I want to try one out, and I'm very interested to see how it goes.

So that makes 4 amps. How many did they say would come out this year? 5?

I still really like my first amp ever, which is the Crush 30R with the real spring-reverb on there. If that amp was any indication of how a SS amp could sound, color me interested! For my kind of music and playing with a multi-amp setup I can imagine the 120W head could be interesting to throw in there, especially if the cleans are good. For me, it doesn't always have to be a tube-amp to be good. My Peavey TNT 130 bassamp for example can produce some really awesome gritty tones and that amp is totally SS too.

The CR120 would be a great backup amp for me, for that price too! And nothing better than a much lighter Rockerverb head! I'm sure it's not nearly as heavy as the RV100.

Wonder if Ade E had any input in designing them. I seem to remember him having said somewhere that he'd not been involved in the Orange s.s designs up to that point.

I think this is an excellent idea. The CR120 would make an excellent low-cost backup for owners of Orange tube heads. It's also going to introduce the brand to more people who are just starting out. I hope the distorted tones are actually similar to the Rockerverb and much improved over the older Crush amps. My Crush 30R has great clean tones, but the distortion is less than stellar.

I'm also glad to see that they have kept the amps simple and not included a bunch of onboard effects.

Does this account for the rest of the new orange offerings this year? Or do we still have a chance of another new tube amp.. Or valve as you say in England

Andy.
He did indeed! Ade worked with one of our new SS engineers on this design. In fact, I was talking to him yesterday and he said these words: "I'm worried these amps sound too good." Then he sent me a new sound clip of the final design and I can honestly say I'm no longer worried about people thinking we've sold out by making higher-wattage SS amps. I think he nailed it finally.

Excellent. FWIW I'm in no way allergic to good s.s. amps. And one of their advantages is that they can also often sound great at lower volumes. Hopefully that'll be the case with these beasties too.

Looking forward to hearing these amps! :D
