NPD: TC Electronic Ditto Looper

Post by OU818 » Wed Mar 06, 2013 3:13 am

I just got the call from Deluxe Guitars in Melbourne that their shipment of Ditto Loopers just turned up.

I took 30 minutes to get there and they had already sold half the box.

I had a quick demo of it in the store and it really is amazingly easy to use, overdub, undo and clear. I found that the press once then press and hold to clear works really well without having to have the loop start again momentarily when clearing.

It is the same size as the Polytune Mini and draws 100mA.

I'm looking forward to putting this at the end of my Eventide chain and seeing what awesome and weird layers I can create.

Wow, that seems really easy to use. One reason i got rid of the Boss looper I had was that I found it to have way too many features and buttons to fiddle with.

How's it holding up for you? I'm trying to have one held for me at GC next week, but I need to hear a bit more first-hand user experience before I bite the bullet. Thoughts?

I bought the RC-3 a few months back. I really don't like the pedal functions. Too much to focus on while playing.

I had an RC-3 as well, and could never get it to sound right in my setup. It didn't like being in front of the amp (dirty channel or overdrive), and in the FX loop it played back too quiet and seemed to suck all the warmth out of the tone. I had an RC-2 previously that I lost when the basement of my house flooded, and I never had any of the tone suck or volume issues with it. I sold the RC-3 and have been afraid to spend the cash on another looper since, thinking it may be something to do with my setup. I'm wondering if maybe the simplicity of this Ditto might be the solution. I really miss having a looper to work out harmonies and solos.

I'm afraid you've not reported back. I assume you've gone all loopy - omg, I'm hilarious - and forgot to report on how good that thing is!

It does look pretty good and simple to use! Looking forward to your thoughts on it!

Sorry guys. It's been a big weekend of gigs and parties. I am totally shagged

I'll do a write up about it very shortly. Suffice to say for now that I think it is great and incredibly easy to use.

I looped the intro for Wish You Were Here through it the other night (ran my Tele into the TimeFactor set to 0 repeats High/Band Delay with the filter all the way to the right and no depth to get that tin can radio sound). I then Gilmour'd over the top of it, laying down overdubs and removing them on the fly. It's such an easy to use and great sounding looper. Everything I found the RC-3 not to be.

Had mine in my hand today at the store, but my trade-ins weren't worth enough to make it happen today. Alas, my ditto is on layaway, and I'm gonna try to ditch my dyna-comp and little alligator on craigslist or ebay or something (wink wink). Or find a hundred bucks under the couch!

The worst part was, I had to buy one for my coworker who gave me cash to pick up a pedal for him. I considered pocketing the ditto and taking the train home and never returning to work, but I figure my job is ever so slightly more valuable than the ditto. We do have a company-owned OR15 halfstack in the office, so I'm in no rush to quit :)

Follow up: Got a coupon in the email today, and went in to pick up my pedal! This thing is SO. DAMN. SMALL. Really, it's hard to get that across in a picture, but it's freaking tiny. I can't wait to get home and play with it!

...then I'm gonna try out my new pedal ;)

I wanted to put something universally sized under it for size reference, so that's a stack of post-it notes. Should give a decent enough idea!

Hopefully it's still big enough to have some fun.

Well you know, they like to say that size doesn't matter.....

More seriously, it sounds like an excellent looper!!!

I just ordered one! I'll definitely do a video on it when I get it.
