First practice with Thunderverb 200, Metal, mini review

Post by koclem » Mon Feb 25, 2013 7:20 pm

Just got a TV 200 on Saturday and it sounds amazing, even better than I thought it would

My band plays post-metal/doom metal style, lots of chuga chuga, 3 piece. Sound is incredibly full and heavy on both channels, the cab was moving ALOT of air

I use 12-60 strings, les paul, 4mm picks, drop B; this amp really highlights the details that each of those things brings to the table.

Channel 2 has slightly more of a metal fizz type distortion IMO, CH1 can be similar but it's more of a pure freaking power, rip your head off type sound, less fizz.

I was using CH2 ~75% of the time.

I was using a 4 ohm Sunn 4X12 with it.

Bass player has 2 Sunn Model-T's and a pile of cabs. the TV was running ~7-8 to keep up, no attenuator. So freaking loud.

Reverb with CH1 sounds incredible on parts with space.

Our drummer is getting killed

AMA about this head as it relates to metal if you want.

Glad you dig it! There are VERY few amps that are that dense in the low end but still have crisp mids/highs. Maybe just channel 4 on a VH4 or an Uberschall. Totally bad ass! Love those TV200s!!

Thanks all,

Another amazing feature is the attenuator, with it playing at home/bedroom levels is not a problem at all and it actually sounds good at those levels

how many 200 watt amps can do both like this? pure freaking amazingness.

I just ordered the Orange 400watt 4X12 hp cab to go with it :D should have it for the weekend!

Yeah sounds good. I don't play in a band and I had the TH 30 but I like the headroom and bottom end with the bigger bottles. Orange has done a great job on this amp for Hi gain and a great clean tone.
