Not a solo, but I've always luved the over & over again lick from The Rolling Stones - The Last Time.

Sweet... a few nice ones to try out there!

I'm a poor is player too solo wise. Dependant on your music choice really but here's a few I like.

first solo I nailed.
you give love a bad name (bon jovi)
my favourite intro/lick/solo is jonnie b Goode. Once u get it its a fun lick to play.
other solos I like and have either tried to learn, am learning now or have given up trying.

you really got me (van Halen)
superstitious (europe) easy till half way point then I give up
nothing else matters (metallica) actually pretty easy.
stairway to heaven (led zepplin) tricky timing.
layla acoustic (clapton)

I'm not great at following through on this things but cna recommeend a few artists that will stretch you because of their personnal technics


- pink floyd/Gilmour, comfortably numb, wish you were here. What's so remarkable about gilmour guitar playing is is incredible timing. And with pink floyd generaly.

- gnr/slash, november rain, and most solos on UYI 1 & 2. Fantastic phrasing, melodies, and one of the best benders ever.

- metallica, k hammet, fade to black, creeping death - both have great solos, as have so many early metallica songs. Great use of scale shapes for great melodic solos

- jimi hendrix - try the whole of little wing. Very reasonnably stretching!!! (not managed it yet) purple haze is inspiring too.

- Led zep - various songs

Clapton - loads of good stuff there too, white room, sunshine of my love

Not necessary to learn them all by heart. But loads of them have great things to pick up.

The entire "In Trance" album is crazy, it's my favorite album by the scorpions.
They were a more raw band at that time!

Favorite solo top 10:

Not a big lead guy, more of a riff guy...

So I'm gonna say :
-Thin Lizzy: Emerald (the entire song), cool riffs, great harmonic melody and no nonsense rock 'n roll solo's at the end.
-Judas Priest: ram it down (one of the few songs I crank my stereo when the solo's come up)
-Ozzy: Mr. crowley
-Black Sabbath: Snowblind
-Mercyful Fate: Egypt

A solo that I am planning to learn is the one from Mr Blue Sky by ELO.

For the most part, my tastes are much heavier (classic heavy - Lizzy, Free, Bad Co, etc) but Jeff Lynne's solo in Blue Sky is a very tastefully phrased solo with well-considered note selection. I think it is one of those solos where you could be forgiven for thinking "Yeah, I can play that - no problem!" But, to really play it faithfully could prove to be much more elusive.

I recently learned the the solo to Fire and Water by Free. But, once again, trying to play it somewhere in the same emotive ball-park as Paul Kossoff - now, that's another thing.

Finally, my favourite solo to play is Scott Gorham's solo from Lizzy's Dancing in the Moonlight.

Find a solo that you like, one that speaks to you - and, maybe, one that you can hum or whistle. Learning solos can take time, you need to like it, to want to play it, and it helps if you can hear it in your head.

I really feel that the solo from "Whole Lotta Love" from Zeppelin would be the perfect thing for you by the sounds of things. Very short, not too fast, but lot's of cool techniques in there. For me, it's an exercise in practising control. Also, there are fairly large pauses between the phrase to give you time to get ready. The main thing though, is that it effin' ROCKS. Let me know if you want a correct tab for it; I've never seen one that is actually right. I got it by ear a long time ago and honed it down to exactly what he's playing.

I'm not great with tabs... I can read staves but tend to play most things by ear. I probably should try though...

Good to see I'm not alone

The tracks I'm posting are just some of my favourite guitar rock tracks/solos.
Learning a solo note for note isn't necessarily important for me. I think its more about developing technique in the style you're wanting to achieve rather than being a carbon copy of someone else.

Just been listening to that solo and think I'm gonna try that. Like all the breaks and variants. I'd appreciate a good tab for it if u have it. There's a pretty good sounding YouTube video lesson.

Buddy Guy's solo during his cover of Jimi's Red House. One of those things that makes you want to set down the guitar and cry for awhile.

Pretty sure if I spent more time thinking about it my list would be different, got ideas from here and others are real obvious, but I can't leave them out since they deserve to be there.
