Everybody's going to tell you what they've got and why they like it, so I say OR50 is the way to go. Much more vintage sounding. But, your ears are the beat. Try before you buy, if possible.

Re: TV50 or or50 ???
I currently own and use the OR50 as my main amp. I did own the TV50 but sold it several weeks back. IMO the OR50 is much better for vintage tones. If you wanted the ability to get metal tones then the TV would win out. The channel A of the TV has some great classic tones, it an absolutely great channel. However for me channel b is way to dark, I couldn't get a clean tone that worked for me, it's a very dark amp. And I could get a nice clean out of A but then I didn't like channel B even for overdrive or lead tones. The Attenuater of the TV is an awesome feature. However the OR50 sounds good at low levels for a 50 watt amp, very good master volume. I don't have to have a lot of effects so the simplicity of the OR works for me. It is actually quite versatile for a single channel and gets great classic tones and some nice heavier ones too if you need it. I get a much better clean from it for my personal taste than I did the TV.
I use a bb preamp for solos, and I'm prob going to get a reverb pedal soon and that's it.

Re: TV50 or or50 ???
thanks guys, the Tv appealed because of the extra features and twin channel etc so interesting to hear your comments about it being too dark, i was thinking this could be switched for solos, will demo both of course. first need to sell then TH30

Re: TV50 or or50 ???
I own the TV50 and mostly agree with this. Channel A is warm and vintage sounding and you can get a great crunch out of it, by far the better channel of the 2 for rhythm work imo. Channel B is really too dark because of the limitations of having only a shape knob to add the high end that’s missing, but it works great as a lead boost channel if you have an OD pedal or EQ pedal that can brighten it up. I can’t get by easily with a single channel amp either since I need a volume boost for leads. Since the TV50 also has an effects loop, you could also add a boost there to add volume for leads even if you stick to channel A. I personally like channel B for leads though if I have an OD pedal since it’ll cut through just fine and still retain a lot of the channel B fatness.msmith4432 wrote:I currently own and use the OR50 as my main amp. I’ve never played the OR50, but from what I can tell from the demos I’ve listened to, it sounds like it’s even more vintage flavored and fuzzy than the TV50 if that’s what you’re after. So if you want pure vintage tone, it might be more suited to you tone-wise, however you’ll be lacking a lot of the features that might be useful to you with the TV50. Just some food for thought!

I have the tv50 and would not recommend it for indie and 60s really, I mean it can do it but it does not excel in that area since it seems to be more of a heavy rock amp that can do some metal.the reich stuff wrote:got a th30 its ok but want a more vintage warmer tone, looking at the TV50 or OR50, any advice. Re: TV50 or or50 ???
yeah, OR50. or better yet, maybe an AD140/30. that amp is absolutely perfect for 60s/indie, and has plenty of gain for punk as well.

TV50 owner, another vote for AD series. either the 30 or the 140 if you can find one, depending on how clean or how loud you play. there is a 50 too, but your tastes will probably vibe more with either of the extremes.

Another vote for the AD30 from me. Might not be exactly what you had in mind, but Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys, until switching to a vintage Selmer Zodiac in recent years, played a start through an AD30 combo, using a Pro Co Rat for the really saturated OD tones, not that the AD30 can't get crunchy on it's own!

Re: TV50 or or50 ???
I have both the OR50 and the TV50. The TV50 is a bada$$ amp. It is heavy in the tone department, it can do "classic" rock, it can do metal and it does it with serious balls. I love the TV50 because the sound is just way huge. The OR50 is a more focused tone and is better suited for classic rock, it doesnt seem to have the full on metal gain you get from a TV50, but it is a super sweet amp, the tones are full and complete, well rounded and is another really killer amp. Of course today I learn there is a pending OR100. Maybe next Christmas!
