412 or 212? I know, again?

Post by Woodsie » Tue Dec 04, 2012 2:25 pm

I have a chance to pick up a new, black, slant PPC412. There's a local Orange retailer looking to clear out some stock. It's a pretty good deal. Right around where I've seen them for sale used. My question first is about my PPC 212. I read where Orange cabs are designed to sit solidly on the floor. Booming bass and tighter bass response. Yada yada. I have been putting mine tilted back on a stand. Would I be better off with it on the floor? If so, I'll miss having the head at chest height and the speakers aimed up at me. This helps with my decision on the 412 slant, as this solves all of those issues at once.

Just get a 4x12 :D

And BTW all cabs (stereo speakers alike) have this effect on the floor.

Thanks Jon. What does that mean for cabs with casters?

acoustic de-coupling. sometimes good, sometimes bad.

depends on the floor. on concrete, probably no big deal (too much mass for it to become acoustically active), on a raised stage, HUGE difference.

when we set my brothers bass rig on the floor in a room we were going to play (working out some spacing and layout issues and testing the room) he was completely lost in that huge space (despite having a 450w rig). when the stage showed up 2 hrs late, we got everything set up again and there was a HUGE difference...

thanks. i really want to pull the trigger on this cab. i'm just trying to justify it. I know it's more speakers than i'll probably ever need but, it's so bad a** looking.

I vote 212, weighs a lot less, and is less bulky so one person can carry it. I plan to get another 212ppc since they fit in my trunk and I can see through the rear view for safety purposes. the ppv412ad weighs 102 pounds!! :twisted: http://www.orangeamps.com/products/guit ... ope-front/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

that's lighter than i thought. Guitar Center says they weigh 110 1/4 lbs. that must be boxed vs unboxed weight. I know it's heavy and i'd have to drag it out of my basement through my bulkhead for gigs.

So basically, what I'm coming to understand is.....I don't NEED a PPC412. It's a matter of want and do I want it bad enough to she'll out the cash and then have to lug it around. Hmmmm. Maybe.

I do not know what music you play, but it seems like a 412 is standard issue for like over 90% of rock and metal bands... that is why I wanna get mine, just to keep up with the joneses and for looks, maybe I will even plug it in :lol:

maybe it will pressurize the stage in a good way or help me rock a large crowd, but a 412 if you crank the amp much is really too much firepower for most PAs, you cannot really hear the rest of the band :mrgreen:
