OR 50 on the way

Post by merlhagstrom » Wed Nov 28, 2012 7:51 pm

I have been lusting after an OR50 for several years now. I had a choice between my Thunderverb 50 and an OR 50 at the time. I would never trade, or sell my Thunder but I always felt there was something about the OR 50 that I didnt get with the Thunder. I noticed a retailer has them at a reasonable price so I pulled the trigger. My band is on an extended mental health break so I wont get to play it live for a while, but I am looking forward to its arrival. Now that I am done spooning >>> any OR users use the footswitch to take the master out and if so how easy is it to balance and how does the non master take a boss super overdrive? I only ask as I am the moron who attempts leads in our band and what I do to mimic an actual solo is hit the old yellow pedal and hope for the best.

I don't think you'll find the MV foot switch to be very useful, but YMMV. The OR, like many Oranges, takes some pedals well. Not familiar with the Boss pedal myself, so report back to us. Congratulations!

I have been mostly using the OR50 for live work, I have tinkered with the master volume out of the circuit and personally I have not found any applications that work for me. If you have it set clean and then disengage the master you are still left with a pretty clean tone. If you have it set for pretty moderate gain 1to 2 o'clock and then disengage it changes the characteristic of the overdrive and is much louder, so much so that its not a reasonable boost. That is if you don't already have the master pretty well cranked. And for the settings I usually play in my master does not usually get above 11 o'clock.

I have the tv50 as well and while they can get some of the same sounds they certainly are different animals. I think you will love it. As to the pedal the only boost I have used is the bb preamp and it takes that pedal well. I'm probably going to get a reverb pedal soon but have not decided which one.

Refreshing attitude. LOL!

Can't help you on that but I'm sure some colour of pedal should do it for you. Most likely an uncoloured sounding one!

Congrats!

I use the Master Volume switch live. I usually set my OR50 to low or med overdrive but when I need a clean tone I switch out the MV (and attenuator) and back off the volume and roll up the tone on the guitar. It's not getting squeaky clean but it does the job I need it to.

It is here, sitting sadly in its box. It wouldnt be fair to everyone else to open before christmas. I have always hated fair. I will have to muddle along with the Thunderverb until the 25th.

Isn't there like a 15 day return policy on it that runs out on the 23rd? Probably be best to fire it up to make sure everything is working properly. And most failures occur during the first 3 hours of uninterrupted loud use so you should make that happen too.

You know, just to be sure.....
