Looking for Speakers to match with a Dark Terror

Post by WhDemon » Mon Oct 15, 2012 5:42 pm

I might go for the 212 in a closed back. I'm making the cab itself.

I live in canada btw.

I would like eminence speakers because they are cheaper than the Celestions.

Thanks !

I would get some Eminence speakers then  . The Wizard might be the best match for the Dark Terror, but it really depends on your preferences.

Check out WGS speakers as well. I use those in 2 closed-back 1x12s with my TH30, and I love them. Plus you'll save even more than the Eminence's!

I have heard some great things about the WGS, I would love to give them a try myself.

I use two Sourmash 1x12 with a WGS Reaper and a WGS Retro 30. All I can say is mmmm mmmm good! They are both good alone but great together. By themselves I like the Reaper best, IMO.

I prefer Eminence over most Celestions but not because they're cheaper, I just actually like them better. Are you going for a particular sound (i.e. tight, dark, bright, etc)? I've tried a bunch of different Eminence speakers as well as the WGS retro 30. It all depends on your preference really. If you want a tighter speaker, I'd definitely go Eminence, either the Private Jack (Greenback) or Texas Heat are great for a fat and tight sound although they're bit on the dark side compared to the Wizard (G12H30) or Governor (V30). Mixing 2 of these speakers could give you the best of both worlds too.

I replaced the V30's in my 212 with m75 Scumbacks. They are pricey, but so damn awesome. They are modeled after pre rola greenbacks. You can get em in 65 or 100 watts too so they dont get flubby. I got the 65 watters.

I can get some nice vintage tones with the gain dialed back on my Dark Terror with this set up. And when I crank it, they can take the low end no prob.
