40th anniversary cab

Post by msmith4432 » Mon Jul 30, 2012 2:22 pm

The 40th anniversary can that came out with or50 in 2008... Anybody played one. Is there anything special about them. I know they don't have v30s. Also does anybody think that the 400 Or50s that came out in 2008 are better than the production model. Would there be any benefit to trying to find one of those as oppossed to getting a new production one?

Never played the cab but Randy has one. There are probably a couple others on here that do as well. It's loaded with G12H30s instead of V30s, which I personally see as a huge improvement in tone. 8)

The only difference between the 40th and a new production is the gold hardware on the handle, the gold piping and the Plexi front panel. That came directly from Alex at Orange...... So that's got to be at least 80% right... right?

I found a good deal on a 40th Anni used head before I could get my hands on an RI. I think it's cool having the 40th but at some point you have to weight the cool-to-$$ factor.

Well there is potentially a pretty fair package deal both head and cabinet. It would work out only paying about $250 more for both than I would pay for the production or new. It would be a stretch but I considering trying to make it work I have my r30 on eBay if it will sell that will help alot.

The PPC412-LTD cab is only different from the regular cab in that it has the G12H-30 (70th Anniversary) speakers, gold piping, and the small 40th Anniversary badge on the grill. I think they made slightly more than 400 cabs considering that there were also 40 of the 40th Anniversary Custom Shop heads made in 2008. I'm thinking they should have made at least 440 cabs, but I've never seen an official number.

As far as the OR50, I would expect the "reissue" to sound identical to the 40th Anniversary model. I like the Anniversary cosmetics much better, but that's the only difference. Get whichever one you can get your hands on.

For what it's worth, the 40th Anniversary OR50 and LTD cab ran around $3K together when new in 2008.

I would take a cab loaded with g12h 30 heritage speakers over a cab with v30's every day of the week, every week of the month, etc. That is my opinion of course, but I put those speakers in a totally different league than the v30's.

I'd pay $2,400 if it was mint. There aren't many original sets on the market at any given time. I don't think there's much legitimate "collector" value (yet), but I think the cab is easily worth $800 and the head should be worth around the same as a new Reissue head in my opinion as long as it's in perfect shape. The Plexi panel is worth the extra cash to me.

I use both a PPC412LTD and a regular one. The ltd cab is more bright and has more punch, the stock 412 sounds warmer and has more mid. The amps are Sally and Angie. Image

Very cool, you have 2 of the 40 that's pretty awesome. That's a little surprising to me that the v30 is warmer but thanks for the input.

One would think that there has to be some dealers somewhere that still have one of these 40th anniversary cabs new old stock. I really haven't seen many for sale on the used market. I haven't found any new ones for sale, but I'd like to buy one. I might would trade my v30 cab for one, as I think the G12H30's may be to my liking better.

I have never seen one. I think I would like it better too. V30s are ok but I'm not in love with them by any means.

The bid ended. I bid $2050 and shipping was going to be about $200. That literally maxed me out and really left me short but I was willing to make it happen. I had u til literally the last second and as I thought it was about to say you are the winning bid, it said you have been outbid. Somebody got it for $2075. I don't feel bad though because I gave it all I had and that's all you can do. Now I'm going to either order a OR50 production from sweetwater. Or go buy one from the local orange dealer if they have one in stock in the back... I don't like buying floor models. Maybe it's just me.
