best pickups for les paul and rv50?
what matches well with the rv50? im looking at burstbucker pros or 57 classics? any others? i love 57 classics but im afraid the loose low end on them will not match up well with the rv50. have you rv50 owners found that the 57s work well?
any favorite humbuckers out there in orange land???

I really like the burstbucker pro personnaly - the are quite a bit more articulate than the 57s. They're not hotter despite the alinco V magnet, but just bright and articulate with still plenty low end.drtone2015 wrote:what matches well with the rv50? im looking at burstbucker pros or 57 classics? any others? i love 57 classics but im afraid the loose low end on them will not match up well with the rv50. have you rv50 owners found that the 57s work well?

Obviously with the RV50 that set play very nicely IMO. The neck will do Jazz to thick rhythms, the bridge is really bright and cutting, quite tight.
I'm more of a neck pick up man myself though, I'm rarely on the bridge pick up, regardless of guitar.
In essence, both sets will do the same thing - from jazz to hard rock or even metal, but owning my LP standard faded with Burstbucker Pro, I find the 57s just lack articulation and definition, sound a touch muddy though somewhat fatter.
Some prefer that!

i love the 57'/57'+'s with my RV100. But it doesn't work for every kind of music. I usually play low to mid gain vintage(mostly 70's) stuff and high gain like doom (sleep, electric wizard). For these applications they do it perfectly. You said something that is true, it doesn't have a tight low end and that was exactly what I was looking for.
For me, after the 57's, the next logical upgrade would be the Bare Knuckle Mule 'PAF' Humbuckers. Or a Lindy Fralin Pure PAF maybe

I use Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro's in all my Les Pauls. They also have CTS 500k pots, Sprague Vitamin Q PIO caps (.022 in bridge and .015 in neck) and 50's style wiring. They sound absolutely fantastic through my RV50MKII.

I've never really thought of PAF type pickups as being loose, thats something I usually associate with an amp / cabdrtone2015 wrote:sizzlingbadger wrote:For me its DiMarzio 36th Anniversary PAF's.

I like the Burstbucker #2 for the neck- and Burstbucker #3 for the bridgeposition in my Tokai Les Paul.

WCR, Wolfetone, Klein or Zhangbuckers Pure Hand Wound line for me. Currently have Wolfetone Legends installed and they kill.

ya i have wcr american steeles and they do sound really good, just might have too much midrange for me though. they are warm pickups, combined with a warm amp and cab its just too warm! not enough bite. ill probably give the bb pros a go and see what happens.

Love my 57/57+...hated the BB Pros. That said, I think I preferred my tele through the RV...needs a bit of that biting edge.

Cheapest good sounding pickups I can find.
Currently the Tonerider humbuckers. If you want a little brighter sounding, try the Alnico IV; the Alnico II are a bit more PAF like still, and the Rocksongs are a bit punchier as the name suggests! All very good pickups for bargain prices.
I used to have a Bareknuckle Mule pickup... was no better than the Toneriders...
