Suggest an overdrive pedal for my TH30!

Post by conkerandco » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:27 pm

So, i've decided i need a new pedal to use on the clean channel of my th30 to give me a versatile overdrive sound whilst using the gain channel on the amp for my heavier distortion stuff. I guess a nice transparent style thing is what i'm looking for.

So far i've considered the following:
- Providence sov-2
- Fulltone Fulldrive 2
-Wampler tweed '57
-Wampler Ectasy
-Suhr Shiba Drive

Can anyone suggest any more to check out? Or any that work particularly well with Orange's?

~ it would be nice to have a boost function built in aswell; at the moment im using a nasty old digitech scremin' blues as a boost.

Lovepedal Eternity Kanji works great however you just can't go past a Shiva Drive.

Not sure how much it translates, but I like a Timmy and a Lumpy's Brilliant Boost into the natural channel on my R.30, then use the dirty channel for higher gain stuff.

Both of these are open in the mids while adding upper end grit and/or boost. My stomps that have more mids don't seem to get along with my R.30 so well for low-mid gain. I only use single coils, so YMMV.

better judged by 12 than lowered by 6

yeh i know, but i'm playing indie-rock stuff at the moment so usually find the upper-half of my Th30's gain knob gets a bit dusty aha.

if you're doing indie rock and don't need a loop... just swap for an AD30 anyway...

MANY of us have less in our AD30 combo's than you could get for your TH30...

AD30 heads are a little scarcer it seems... but either way...get the AD30!

for serious though, check out a JHS Double Barrel. it's got one of the best sounding TS circuits i've ever heard, and is super versatile. plus it has a great jangly sounding overdrive/boost that can be routed before or after the TS side via a toggle switch. very versatile pedal.

I have considered it man, honestly. But I do play a LOT of stuff and whilst my main band is indie-rock my other projects range from event-covers all the way through to alt-metal. So i do end up appreciating the versatility of the Th30. and it's something i looked at when buying it.

I know an AD30 would be more suited to what i'm doing at the moment but i don't want to be in a position in the future where i need the th30 that i traded ;)

The Zvex SHO (boost, not OD) works wonderfully with my TH30...
The Timmy or Danelectro Transparent OD v1 works also very well with it.

Blackstar HT series - I've got a Dual, which is the same as the HT Drive and HT Dist in one pedal. HT Dist is pretty filthy (but does turn down), HT Dual is more of an AC/DC style crunch...

Too much gain is... just about enough

Check out the Zvex box of rock. It's an OD plus a clean boost all in one. Half of it is a SHO which works really well with my rocker 30 for boosting it. The other half is the OD part. It has 2 switches so it's basically 2 pedals in one! Nice value!
