so for the last 7-8 years, we've rented out our basement, finally we're at a point in our lives where we not only need the space (3 boys) we can financially afford not to deal with the hassles of living with tenants. So I've been renovating the basement area into a home theatre/entertainment room, and saved the bedroom area for my own.

Re: weekend project
Currently have no official room for my gear anymore. My daughter screams at me everytime I play because it interrupts her cartoons. I'm insanely jealous! Very nice!
Re: weekend project
that's the great thing about soundproofing, i can barely head my 11 year old son play the drums while I'm on the main floor above, I can practice at moderate levels in the wee hours of the night without disturbing anybody...loving the freedom for sure!

Sadly, that is main reason for wanting to buy a house...so I can build a soundproof room and disappear .matty76 wrote:that's the great thing about soundproofing, i can barely head my 11 year old son play the drums while I'm on the main floor above, I can practice at moderate levels in the wee hours of the night without disturbing anybody...loving the freedom for sure!

Re: weekend project
First, congrats! I have a basement to myself too.
Second:
Or did you soundproof it a long time ago because your basement tenants were either noisy in a bad way (obnoxious) or in a good way (Sweedish bikini models who were bi-curious)?

Re: weekend project
The best thing I did to improve my basement/ practice space was to install a kegerator in the bar....

Re: weekend project
I built the basement with the intent to make it as soundproof as possible for our tenants
resilient channeling on the ceiling, 5/8 drywall, roxul sound insulation, green glue with double 5/8 on all walls connected to other living spaces
you can hear through soem of the ductwork, so I made up some sound insultaion blocks that I can plug them with when needed.
I also have a sound barrier/decoupler under all hardwood and tile on the main floor.
it's not 100% soundproof at higher levels (I still get some bass transfer) but it works great for my family

Love the Paul Gilbert Ibanez.
If I ever buy a shredder guitar it'd be one of those...
