Spotify in the states yet?
Hi everyone. Long time no see.
Just wanted to ask real quick. Have Spotify come to USA yet?
If so, has it grown really big yet or just a few users?
Here in Sweden Spotify has pretty much taken over everything. No one really cares about mp3s anymore. People even have Spotify in their phones, so people've stopped using mp3-players as well.
And what about Britain? Rumors say it's still not available over there..?

spotify's been around for at least 5-6 months here. maybe longer. it's gotten pretty big via facebook, since they're so integrated.

Re: Spotify in the states yet?
I have a lot of friends that use it. I signed up a while back, but never listen to it. I'm seriously thinking about making the move back to CD and vinyl only. I deleted about 120g of music a while back because I got frustrated as my iTunes stuff was sort of unorganized. I still have 30g left. Anyways, I'm just sort of over the entire digital thing. I was an early adopter of mp3s and I feel that I don't appreciate albums like I used to when I had to buy either the tape, CD, or LP. Ramble over.

I signed up for it but never use it. I have a lot of songs on the ipod on my phone plus all my songs on a seperate ipod.
Yeah i don't really get the same feeling with mp3s as having a physical copy in my hand. I appreciate the album art and inlay stuff too which you obviously don't get with a download.baytamusic wrote:I was an early adopter of mp3s and I feel that I don't appreciate albums like I used to when I had to buy either the tape, CD, or LP. Yeah, I'm with you there guys.
I've taken to buying all my new music on Vinyl now. Half the time they either give you a CD too, or download codes anyway.
Having my band E.P. mastered buy a dude who specialised in Vinyl mastering really opened up my eyes to what I was missing out on. I'd been wondering why i wasn't getting so 'excited' by music anymore. I thought maybe I was just getting older and cranky Then found the missing vinyl link!
Anyway, back on topic. Spotify is good at making it easy for punters to satisfy musical curiosity, band to make their tunes available - and for bands to make a few cents/pence. It ain't much, but it's better than a kick up the arse.
. . . . at least I'm hoping we get something for being played!?!

I read somewhere that CDs are soon to become the "new" vinyl.... Not sure if that is the case.
I still have a lot of CDs, and records. And my car has three large CD books in the backseat. But I recently upgraded my car stereo so that I have an auxiliary jack and a USB port for a thumb drive. So now I can at least listen to what I have on my iphone (not much), or Pandora, and maybe, if I ever get it - Spotify, which I've heard great things about. I also love having the USB because "burning" a "disc" is as easy as popping the drive into a USB Port on my computer, and dragging a file over.
I think in the car, depending on the car/speakers/etc (I have an 05 Scion XB, like a cardboard box on wheels) the difference in quality between a CD and an mp3 is not too noticeable - depending on the quality of the production. But as for home listening, nothing beats that sound of a needle dropping into place on a disc of vinyl...

Totally man. When I listen to MP3s on my studio monitors the cymbals sound like garbage. Hissy compressed ear fatiguing junk I tell you!

The first time I heard a good turntable setup in a specialist HiFi shop, it sounded like Stewart Copelands snare was actually in the room with me
And that was out of a tiny pair of 2 way Mordaunt Short speakers which made it all the more unbelievable...
Hate to say this but I've practically stopped buying any digital format music.
When they finally get round to releasing stuff in HD then I'll go back to buying it and probably buy a few of the old classics again too.

Yeah, there is a huge difference between listening to a mixed version of anything I've recorded between a stereo WAV mix down playing out of Logic, and after I've bounced it to MP3 for referencing/emailing. It sucks that MP3 became the standard format for digital music.
Did any of you read about Neil Young trademarking an new audio format and talking to Steve Jobs about making a new high quality standard? Kinda cool I guess, not sure what's wrong with WAV.

Spotiwhat?
I was just bitching to the wife the other day that I cant walk into a store and buy a cd anymore. Even so called "music" stores have mostly taken to selling movies and games...it pisses me off. I'm forced to use a damn Ipod and I hate them...you cant even buy a decent mp3 player in Canada because no one wants to compete with Apple.
At least I can take all my music with me wherever, that's the one good thing. I have Ipod hookups on my stereo at home, work, and in the car so its plug in and listen where I left off.

That new format looks promising yup.
The fact that data storage devices are so huge now compared to when MP3 first emerged has practically made them obsolete in my eyes.

Someone should figure out how to make a website with naked pictures of women on it. I'll bet that would be popular.Ddjembe Mutombo wrote:It's like Myspace but with less mirror poses.Randy Bass wrote:What is Facebook?
