Needing a cheap guitar/ IM BACK

After a good few years of not playing a whole bunch of guitar because of other commitments (travel, full time work, girlfriend) I've decided to get things going again. I still have all my gear but they happens to be 8998 miles away.... I moved to London.

SO im in the market for a cheap guitar. Im not going to be gigging its something for my bedroom, ill just use a Vox amplug most probably. Preferably a telecaster. I dont care where its made or if its a copy. Im looking to spend around 350 to 400 pounds. I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO LOOK IN LONDON. I went to denmark street but I happen to have misplaced the 3000 pounds I would need to buy some wood there.

SO LET THE SUGGESTIONS FLOW.

I'd look 4 a squier of some sort - u might even get some left over for an amp.

squier custom tele II or a classic vibe tele. both highly recommended and pretty cheap

classic vibe looks promising, ill also keep tabs on gumtree. Ive always wanted a baja but that would be stretching the budget.

Any faults with the classic vibe? pups alright or would I need an upgrade?

IMHO, the Squier Classic Vibe 50 is the best inexpensive guitar on the market.

I've had mine since they first were released a few years ago & I still love it. Bought it with intentions of converting it into an Esquire, which I did immediately. Couldn't be happier.

I also recommend the squier classic vibe! Can't be beat for the price and to me they play better then the standard Fenders. I've almost bought one several times after prying myself away telling myself I don't need another guitar even if it is cheap. The Thinline model is my favourite, has a unique character to it and is very light (for a tele).

None. Pickups are very good sounding too.

+1 again then!

Welcome back, and to being the right way up! :D

Classic Vibe is awesome. also, not sure if it would stretch your budget but a G&L ASAT Tribute are also GREAT guitars for decently cheap: more than the Classic Vibe, but less than a baja. i think they're the best of the three too.

yeah the G&L is too pricey, it looks like the classic vibe is the clear winner.
Anyone know of decent guitar shops in london? Is denmark street the way to go?

If you're on a budget, I'd seriously consider the gumtree or local ebay listing on pick up basis.

Denmark street is always fun to browse, but buying new in the UK, i'd consider buying online from Andertons, GAK or DV247. Actually I think DV247 has a number of shops disseminated throughout london, though they don't all have the guitar range IIRC, best picking up the phone to find out.

would you recommend buying this guitar blind? From reviews I havnt come across any lemons, I would just prefer to play it before I purchase

I'd always recommend playing before purchase. FWIW I played about 7 or 8 of the CV '50s Teles. All seemed decent, generally nicer than the Mexican Fenders I've played. Two were exceptionally nice, one of which I bought. Thats a pretty good average I'd say, but still they all have different bits of wood which have to work together, and some just have better resonance and sustain than others. So pick the best you can find.

looks like I need to go to one of those mega music stores. I know GAK is in brighton, are there any other super stores not too far from London?

a fender lite ash popped up on Gumtree today, its 50 pounds more than the classic vibe. Anyone played the lite ash fender? How does it compare to the Classic Vibe?

Fender Modern Player Tele's?? They're about the same price as higher-end Squiers and have some really useful upgrades. I love mine :)
