Just heard the news that Jim Marshall has passed away aged 88. I may not have ever really gotten along with his amplifiers, but there is no denying the importance of his work to the world of music, especially rock and roll.

R.I.P Jim.

Coincidentally, today is also the 18th anniversary of Kurt Cobains death and the 10th anniversary of Layne Staley dying.

April 5th hates rock music it seems.

The man changed the sound of Rock music forever. And is responsible for probably about 50% of all of our hearing loss.
God bless him.

Never got to meet the man. Shucks. R.I.P. Jim. Music would not be the same without his amps....I own several of his models. Mucho respect to him and the company he built.

Not only did he hugely help change music but helped redefine western culture in a huge way.

Where would Apple be today without Jim's amps so many years ago?

Wow, that's a bummer. He's in a better place now. He definitely shaped all our lives as musicians, and we never even met him (or owned an amp). That's saying something.

Is it odd that my buddies JCM900 combo blew up on Tuesday night?

I met him once, have the signed poster still.

I'd just got my 9005 Stereo Marshall power amp at the time to run my ADA preamp and Roland GP16 effects into and I asked why they hadn't brought a midi preamp out yet...
Within a year or so out came the JMP1... Wether or not they already had it in the pipeline or not I guess I'll never know.

He seemed a nice genuine guy though... Sad news.

Aww man!!!

RIP dude!!!!
"Ears still ringing from the 1960s? Jim Marshall might be to blame."

"Marshall was the man behind "The" amplifier, the weapon of choice for guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Pete Townshend of The Who, and Eric Clapton — "The Marshall."
Image
"He said the rival Fender amp, tremendously popular at the time, produced an extremely clean sound that worked well with jazz and country and western but did not satisfy younger players searching for something different. He was looking for a rougher sound.

Marshall was a larger than life figure with a taste for single malt Scotch whiskey and Cuban Montecristo cigars. Even in his 70s, when he was already suffering from some serious health problems, he thought nothing of hopping a plane to catch an Iron Maiden concert."

Sad day. You don't need to be a fan of all Marshalls, old and new, to realise just what he did for electric guitar sounds. Jim Marshall's amps set the standard for rock guitar, simple as that.

Great man, iconic products.

RIP.

Maybe he finally got around to trying out an Orange amp and after hearing it's awesomeness simply decided to croak it?........too soon? ;)

Seriously though this is so sad, especially in such a big milestone year for the company it's a shame he'll miss the 50th anniversary event at Wembley Arena later this year aswell :/

I bought a pair of those snazzy Marshall headphones today, just cos i felt like i owed something to him :') RIP Jim.
