Am I getting scammed (Ebay Content)
Hello, I seek your infinite wisdom, and most importantly your gut instincts.
I just recently won an item on ebay thru best offer. The seller came down a lot on the price. It was listed at $2500, then down to a buy now of $2100, and he accepted my offer of $1800.
As soon as the auction ended the sellers wife sent me a message saying to call them before making payment. Then the story goes more or less like this.....
Seller:don't send payment yet. My paypal account is messed up, I'm going to use my dad's but I've got to get his information first. I'll let you know when I do, but I have to wait for him to get off work, then I'll send you his paypal account information for you to send payment to
Me: I will only send payment to a verified paypal account associated with the auction. You will have to add it to your account and have it verfied, that way we both have options if something goes amiss with this transaction.
Seller: O.k. Bare with me, I'm kinda new to this, I'll have to see how to do this.
Me: No, problem, in no hurry, just let me know when you're ready for payment.
Seller: o.k. got a problem, my dad's paypal account won't accept payments, you could just send the money western union and save on the ebay fees, whatever, it's you're call on that.........
Me: I don't feel comfortable completing this transaction that way. It is against ebay policy, and I have no recourse if you don't send item.
I buy and sell a lot on ebay, and I've never been asked to pay western union, or been told that a paypal account will not accept money. This sounds fishy to me. Please, see link.

I really want this item, but I do not want to be victim to a scam either. If you want to complete this transaction, please make arrangements to do so. Your item auction page has paypal listed as the form of payment, so that is the only way that I intend to pay, because I want to be protected through the proper channels.
No offense, but are you trying to scam me? I just don't understand why you listed the item on ebay, but can't accept a proper form of payment universally accepted on ebay auctions. You have 42 positive feedback as a buyer, so I know you've used paypal before. You have 0 feedback as a seller. If your account is "messed up" and your father's won't accept payments, that is cause for suspicion as well, as I've never known of these issues before with reputable sellers.
I hope we can resolve this, because I do want to complete the transaction.
So, if this is anyone here in the forum, no offense, but I'm feeling skeptical and bummed because I want the item.
Any thoughts?

This sucks. I wanted the item, but no way to I want to just give someone my money either. I'm waiting for another response to the last one I sent, but heck, if they do get this sorted out for a traditional payment, I'm afraid my confidence is already too shaken to complete it now.

I wouldnt do it...Ive had some weird dealings before, but always felt assured by going through paypal in the end. No paypal is a no go for me. Maybe the dude is just trying to avoid the paypal fees...

Either he's a straight-up idiot or it's a scam. Either way, report it so nothing bad happens to you....
Re: Am I getting scammed (Ebay Content)
report it and back off from buying it. don't worry, its not the last one you'll ever find. keep your 1800 bucks, thats allot of money to have some idiot playing games with.

Re: Am I getting scammed (Ebay Content)
thanks for the replies. The seller hasn't responded since my last message......which is the last one seen in my OP.
As for the feedback question: 42+ for buying, but 0 for selling.
Billy-I will definitely report the transaction. I guess if I don't I would be seen as a non-paying bidder, too.
I'll report more on the final outcome later.

Re: Am I getting scammed (Ebay Content)
Well, I reported this transaction today, as badly as I hated to. But, no way am I getting slapped with a non-paying mark. The seller has cut all communication with me it seems, too.
I'll reveal the item, in case no one knows what it was, later after this is all over with.

Well, that probably explains it!
Re: Am I getting scammed (Ebay Content)
Yeah, be careful about that. I'd walk away. I understand things happen, but it's a check-and-verify kind of world. If you can't verify, you walk away.
