Orange rocker 30

Post by BillaBoB » Mon Mar 05, 2012 10:17 pm

Right i just got me an orange rocker 30 and i have a question.

I have band practise tomorrow and i didnt get a footswitch with it, but i have a jet city single footswitch.

My question is will the jet city footswitch work with the rocker 30 and will it damage it if i use it with the rocker 30?

Yer it is a single footswitch, just a normal footswitch to change between two channels.

So it should be fine to use yep? if its not compatable will it hurt the amp at all?

Don't see it being an issue. Orange use a basic switch circuit. You'll be fine.

Congrats on getting one of the finest 30 watters around. Hope you enjoy!
And pretty much any single channel change footswitch should do the job.

all you need is a latching type footswitch. it will either work or not work as some switches are non-latching. it will not damage the amp if it is the wrong thing. welcome to the rocker 30 club! it's a nice place to be 8)

I had a Dual terror and a Jet City JCA22h at the same time. When I first got the JCA I didn't want to unwrap the footswitch.....tried using the Orange and it didn't work. Not sure how the opposite will be though.

Hey cheers fort he help guys, the footswitch worked fine.

Just for the record this amp is soo gd! after using it at practise i realised just how good it is.

Its just so versitile for a simple amp. And really loud for a 30 watt amp.

Strange thing is our other guitarist has just brought a rockerverb 50 mk1 and my amp was both louder and i think it sounded better too.

Anyone know why it would be louder than a 50watt amp? its not got stock tubes soo i thought maybe its got some pretty nice tubes in it? or is it cause its class a and the rockerverb 50 is a/b?

The R30 is excellent for cutting in a mix. Some people perceive volume differences when it is really just a matter of EQ voicing. Also, what kind of speaker and speaker cabs were you using? That will also affect sound projection quite a lot.

Yeah, they are killer 'little' amps. Congratulations on yours! :D

Reason it can easily hang with (or even hurt) a RV.50 is that the RV is a more compressed style amp than the very dynamic Rocker. While the R.30 may only sustain around 30W RMS, (= continuous average power output), it can put out much higher momentary peaks than you'd normally expect from a 30 watter. And it is the attack of a note which we hear as making it loud.

Also... cathode biased amps (like the R.30) have a fairly unique sort of dynamic compression which really does make an amp sound louder. This is a very bold amp with a wide dynamic range and you can hear that easily. (This is exactly why I compare it's feel and dynamics to the very lively OR series vintage Oranges. It is much closer to them than any other of the modern Oranges I've played!)

Also... the Mk.1 RV.50 with its 4 x 6V6 valves probably can't quite sustain a true 50W RMS output due to the valves themselves running out of steam. (It'll be pretty close, but a true 50W RMS clean would be pushing it.) Two good EL34 valves are easily capable of that though, so in the case of the R.30 the actual limiting factor to the sustained output power is something other than the valves.

These are probably the biggest factors technically.
