Best BOOST for my RV50

Post by shardy » Sun Mar 04, 2012 7:00 pm

Hey people,

Iwe been a rockerverb lover for quite some time now tried a lots of other amps, and
always get back to my RV50 for BEAUTIFULL cleans and AMAZING drive channel.
I think that RV50s drive channel is the single most amazing drive sound Iwe heard in
my life. I tried MANY MANY ODs and Distortions hoping that I could get a simmilar sound
but nothing is so unique and beautifull, I almost payed a tehnician to CLONE the drive
channel and put it in a box but It would cost too much :( :( :( ... So I wanted to ask
you when I use my Drive channel I sometimes need me some boost to get into that
heavier side of Rv50 so I wanted to ask you which would you suggest?

I thought of:

EP booster, MXR mc-401, Timmy ... something else?

What say you guys?

Tnx

Ivan

If you want a drive, and not a boost, you would have to use it on the clean channel. Any drive I've ever tried just does not work well with the Orange gain (and I think that goes for pretty much any Orange).

I liked the Fulldrive with the RV...now I use a Visual Sound Open Road and I'm extremely happy with it.

Turn up the volume on the amp on the dirty channel and use the volume pot on the guitar to adjust. Poor man's boost.

I found that the dirty channel is quite compressed and doesn't seem as loud as the clean channel at similar master volumes. I find I need louder master volumes on the dirty channel.

I have one of the original Expandora's and it is the best 'boost' I've used with the RV50. It is tranparent with the RV50 and just gives you a little more umph and gain (depending on your settings of course). I usually have the gain on my RV50 at about noon - 1'oclock

I've tried a big muff (new), Zvex Fuzz Factory, and Zvex Octane 3 (very sweet) which all sound great. I still need to try my old Rat as I have a feeling it's going to be saweet.

Ohnoho also makes a sweet/loud boost called: Blowing Up

I haven't tried mine with the RV. Maybe I'll plug it up tonight and let you know how it sounds tomorrow.

the EP booster is based off of the preamp of an Echoplex, which guitarists used aside from its great delay tones as a preamp to "fatten" up the sound. the SHO is a more traditional booster. i think both are JFET based though. they're both very similar, but i do think the SHO has more boost on tap.

Guys what do you think how do these pedals sound on the
clean channel of the amp?

Timmy (Id use it for a low gain bluesy tone)
Zendrive (same as above but a lot smoother)
Ep Booster (both for boosting the clean and the OD)

??

I can tell you that B.a.t. Pharaoh works AMAZING on the clean channel
Doomy and stonery sound all the way.

Tried the Ohnoho Blowing UP which is very similar to the SHO but with more boost on tap.

Sounded really sick. I really liked it going through the clean channel. VOLUME!!!

I have a chance to trade my Okko Diablo Gain + which is not a good
od pedal with ORange RV50 but a phenomenal Od with any fender amp,
for a mad professor sweet honey OD.

Any1 tried the SHOD with a RV50? ....

Pls give me your opinions :)

try the zakk wylde overdrive, i use that on the dirty channel as a lead boost, but i have a noise suppressor, in there as well because it gets abit noisy.
