Who's you guitar Idol?
I've been noticing more and more lately, because I've been trying to learn a lot more songs, that when it comes down to style and tone I prefer two guitar players way above the rest...Page and Slash. It's funny because I don't listen to either of them a hell of a lot these days, but their sound is embedded in my head and I find its what I try to model myself after. Maybe that's a big part of the reason why I prefer Les Pauls and British amps...
Anyway, who would you consider your guitar Idols to be? Who influences your sound more than any other?

The amount of energy this guy has live is beyond me. It seriously changed me seeing him live. Before I went into that concert I thought Rock n Roll was a genre. I came out knowing that its a way of life. Seriously. I didnt grow up in the 70's and 80's with area rock bands. They were rock stars. I grew up in the 90's 2000's. Nobody is a rock star like this guy is for a younger generation. He has a unique voicing on the instrument, and pumps out song after song about personal experience. He is a musicians musician and a great songwriter. It's hard to find those who can be both these days.

I'm usually not an Idol-iser, but my favorite guitarist is Jack White of the White Stripes. He just gives it to 'er. I like guitarists who totally attack the guitar: Wylde, Kerry King, Bonamassa, Van Halen.
Amps: Orange TH30, Mesa Boogie Mini Rectifier, Eleven Rack, Peavey Vypyr Tube 60.
Guitars: Gibson Les Paul Standard LE (Manhattan Midnight blue), Greco white LP, Burny honeyburst LP, PRS Torero.

Honestly, I would also say Page and Slash. They just simply have the best riffs. Angus Young would be a close tie for third with Jimi.savage8190 wrote:I've been noticing more and more lately, because I've been trying to learn a lot more songs, that when it comes down to style and tone I prefer two guitar players way above the rest...Page and Slash. I forgot to add Malcolm Young, the criminally underrated 1/2 of the Young brothers to my list. And while I don't idolize any of them, they are my favorite players and are certainly inspiring to me.
So the list would be: Tony Iommi, David Gilmour, Scott Gorham, Aaron Turner, Malcolm Young.

Some really interesting responses so far! And I guess idol is the wrong word...I don't idolize them either...more so they are the first to come to mind when I think of great/inspiring tone and riffs.

I spend a lot of time on my front pickup for solos, and that's probably down to having listened to this guy for 30 years . . .
