You probablly won't believe this but
You don't play better after drinking. No I mean it. I just recorded 3 songs. Then, for scientific reasons only, drank 4 vodka and tonics, and re-recorded the same 3 songs. And guess what? They were much werse. Is that the right spelling of werse? I don't know. Anyhow drinking doesn't help your playing, or my typing.
I desided not to post the recorded results because 1) why would I lie about this and 2) I don't think I could up load it now any how.
Whatever.

Well done on scientifically proving this for us, being the guinea pig in this experiment does have it's plus side though.
The most worrying part of this phenomenon is perceived awesomeness vs actual awesomeness. The former starts to sky rocket while the latter nose-dives. And the rate of separation is directly proportional to alcohol intake velocity.

Re: You probablly won't believe this but
oh man, don't i know.....
one night i was nailed to the cross and we cranked up srv's "couldn't stand the weather".
i kept playing the opening riff over and over and over.
it was awful but i didn't know it......
cheap as$ bourbon!
[edit] i got more of these stories than i'd like to admit. one, many many moons ago i was on a pretty good southern tour. this is back in the leather pants days. we were doing covers and one of our show tune songs was boston's "long time". we had a singer that could nail it, except this one day. we got hammered the night before with some of the other bands, then started hammering the same nail the next day.
when we did long time our singer could barely talk and sounded like he was gargling with sand. i was no better. when it came to the signature lead lick [i think its in G - can't remember], but i played it two steps down and it sounded like spinal tap on their worst day. it was like some of those awful youtube vid's some of you guys have posted. dreadful.

Re: You probablly won't believe this but
I had a great recording session on one tune where I did everything where I was 3/4 drunk. Dobro, lap steel, vocals, washboard percussion, engineer and producer.
One more quarter and I believe it all would have had to be re-recorded.

Re: You probablly won't believe this but
In my first band, the drummer and I decided it would be fun to get hammered towards the end of band rehearsal... The problem was the bass player didn't drink alcohol, for religious reasons. Poor bloke had to deal with me playing extended wanky guitar solos on my back and knees, and the drummer playing hell out of time. Good times.

Re: You probablly won't believe this but
I saw an interview with Noel Gallagher once in which he said he never wrote a song whilst under the influence which he liked after he sobered up.
He then went on to explain Be Here Now on the basis that he did not sober up until mid 2000's.
