Matamp 4x12 question.

Post by Santucci218 » Sun Feb 12, 2012 6:47 pm

So I stumbled into this somehow. I was going to buy it and backed out. I ended up just buying an Orange 2x12 Closed back. the 2x12 should be here Tuesday. The guy who wanted to sell me the matamp just sent me an email with such a great deal on this cab that im debating it again. He wants to trade the Orange I just bought, plus some cash, for the Matamp. Thing is, I can hardly find any info on it! Anybody know any info?

He says he picked it up 6 years ago when he worked at Guitar Center when it came in used. Great shape. He also said it has the wood strips on the bottom like an orange, and v30's I believe. He says its a behemoth, but Ill get a rack case with wheels. Also, it has a Matamp tag on the grill instead of a Green tag. What does this mean?

It means it's a Matamp cab! They cost more than Orange in the US.

Green is a brand mostly used by Electric Amps in the USA. I think theyre sort of an ex-Matamp dealer turned into their own business. I think their models are essentially Matamp copies, could be wrong though.

Anyways, Matamp is better IMO. If you need a 412 and that deal is good I'd go for it. It seems like a cool cab. If I had to value it I'd say $800+ depending on condition and your local market.

Dimensions and build quality/materials are probably comparable or better than orange products.

Condition seems pristine! I'm really excited about this cab now. They seem very rare. I was so set on 1 Budda 2x12 1 Orange 2x12, but now that this beast is going to here that changes things a bit. Im going to need to get a case for it, and then an orange 2x12 for when I dont feel like moving it, haha.

Buy it! Matamp makes great stuff and it is pretty rare in the U.S. Actually, I don't think Matamp makes green cabs anymore due to the Electric Amps copyright mess.

it should be a great cab but.... It being green, and a matamp, it could make reselling it in the future quite difficult. Make sure you get a price that reflects that.

Are you saying matamps have a low resale value, or that they dont have a huge market? All I can read about them is how they are some of the best cabs ever made. I cant imagine that it would be that hard to ditch.

Matamp haven't got a huge market, but are meant to be excellent quality.

The issue I would consider here is, primarily, the green tolex. Not many people would go for it IMO, regardless of the excellent quality. Next to that, most people know Marshall, Mesa Boogie, Orange, few people are even aware of Matamp.

So long as you're happy with these 2 issues, you're most likely in for a great cab!

It's not that its not worth the money, it's more there has to be a buyer wanting it.

I've got a Matamp head & cab. They're solidly built, sound great, end of.

If you want a 4x12 in green tolex, and it's a good deal, jump on it. It's not necessarily any better than an Orange cab - will probably sound a shade brighter, but we're talking fractions here.

If you don't want a 4x12, don't bother.

get it. gettt. it. if resale value is your issue, i disagree; even though there isn't a big market, it IS rare since matamp no longer produces these and you could always at least turn even. but like i say, you shouldn't buy gear like you do stocks. get it because it's flippin sweet regardless!!!
