Egnater Tweaker: anyone have/had one?

Post by Neiloler » Sun Feb 05, 2012 4:33 pm

Tell me about your experiences!

I'm looking at them because of the price and the features, as well as the wattage. I dig the tweakability, but I wanted to know if anyone has used one and loved it or found it tough to nail tones, etc.

It would be going into a Weber Legacy speaker too.

I was in a band with a guy who bought one on a whim. I didn't like it much. Next to my AC15 it was no contest which sounded better. He switched back to his Fender Hot Rod after a couple practices with the Egnater.

The only help I can offer is I once owned an Egnater rebel 20 and 30. Nice features and sound but not very responsive I found to playing dynamics. I A/B'd next to the tiny terror and they just didn't respond to the guitar near as well. There's alot going on in their circuits so maybe that's why. The tweaker looks simpler and from sound clips Ive heard sounds a little more wide open. Not much help I know, more less my general opinion on Egnater.

How does that saying go...Jack of all trades, master of none.

I had a Rebel and it sounded good for pretty much anything, but it never wowed me.

I used to have more Orange stuff. Now I just have a PPC412 (black), and a Micro Crush.

Haha, thanks Blue Bomber, it's funny to remember that and then see my respo we of "take that one off the list!" Apparently it forgot it was off the list. Maybe I just need to go with a Tiny Terror.

i've said it before and i'll say it again: they have some really good ideas. some of their features seem like a great idea. the tube mix seems kinda cool in theory. but it's cumbersome to have two sets of tubes in an amp, and it hardly changes the sound. which doesn't matter, because it doesn't sound very good to begin with :)

Yeah, I was just thinking it would be nice to go with something I didn't have to build, and sone of these amps have channel switch and such, but in the end I think I'm going to go with my original plan of building a Princeton reverb head.

I had the Tweaker 15 combo and I found the dirty channel to have a mud/dark quality that I couldn't dial out no matter what I tried. The clean channel was much better and could get up to classic rock levels of overdrive with the gain cranked up. The problem for me was that I prefer a bit more gain than that and the dirty channel wasn't doing it for me.

I ended up selling it to fund my Rocker 30 combo and I'm extremely happy with how that's turned out!
