GAS for pedals... Do i really need them?
Ok this is my current set up:
Les paul studio with burstbuckers. Strat with texas special. Into pedal board to rockerverb 50 mki
My pedal board is: mini stutter-retrosonic distortion(for rat like sounds)-mxr micro amp-crybaby original-dod chorusfx64- mxr carbon copy- korg tuner
I am gasing for a mxr phase90 and a microchorus to replace the DOD
What do you guys think?
We play mostly covers from the 80s and beyond

I have a dod fx65 and it sounds good, but both of those mxr pedals are pretty cheap, especially used or on sale so it wouldn't hurt to try them out and see if you like them, if not you can always make your money back!

I think you're at the ragged edge of "too much" but, hey if it works for you, go for it.

My personal philosophy is that if you're worried you're going to have too many pedals...your pedal board isn't big enough.
Seriously though, try them out a bit in the store if it's at all an option. I honestly find that a quick trip to Guit(ar) Center does more to disuade GAS than bring it on; I realize what I can live without and what's been hyped up too much for my personal playing tastes in the interwebz.

I might argue that there is never ever going to be a reason to own even one chorus, flange or phase effect.

phase is very useful to me. it's not cheesy sounding like chorus and flanger to me. my phase 90 is very usable and soft, like a wah pedal that i don't have to control, and at faster rates i can get a cool uni-vibe type sound. but to each his ownhellagnar Brosevelt wrote:I might argue that there is never ever going to be a reason to own even one chorus, flange or phase effect.

I have both the Phase 90 and the Micro Pedals. I LOVE THEM! favourite phase and chorus pedals I've ever owned. However you just have to be the type of person who just wants a phase tone and a chorus tone without getting all wacky, one knob for rate and thats it. Clearest sounding phase and chorus I've had too, doesn't buffer my tone too much like others did, I hear my guitar as it should sound.

Re: GAS for pedals... Do i really need them?
I don't ever buy pedals anymore because I just get sick of them so quickly and always end up preferring just going straight into a good amp. But I second the trip to GC to relieve gas theory. I do the same thing and usually I'm so glad I didn't order or buy what I was gassed up for.
Re: GAS for pedals... Do i really need them?
I bought a Strymon Orbit Flanger a month or so ago on GAS.
Turns out it sounds amazing but I think the Lex or Vibe pedal would have been more what I was after.
Even a tremolo would fit the bill... may need to do a trade.
I only run 4 pedals generally.
Delay, Overdrve, Boost, Wah. With a tuner at the start.
I can't imagine needing more than that.

buying from GC's used site is really helpful. i bought a Fuzz Factory, an EQD Monarch, and a couple other dirtboxes this way and found that they weren't for me, so i took them back to my local store, no questions asked. plus, you have 30 days to demo them out.

Ok this phaser is pretty cool.

The long sweeps around the 2:00 mark is pretty awesome.
I do also feel that Chad at Cmatmods cant make a bad pedal so that might be why I like this one.

^ That does sound nice. Reminds me of that 70s Rush sound.
Does anyone happen to know what Alex was using back then?

I would forget the chorus and get this Moonphaser: http://www.moonphaser.co.uk/

I've been playing Floyd lately. You can see my setup in my signature. The dark terror sounds great with the gain turned down and certain pedals at sometimes. Using the Tele volume and tone knobs w/ the pickup selector does wonders. Having a TS9 in front helps. And the carbon copy delay is the best delay ive ever owned. I don't think chorus is cheesy when used right. I agree w/ the post that says a trip to GC would help. Recently I was looking for a vibe pedal and found that the TC electronic vibrato pedal rips. Plus you can download presets from their website. It's all how u use them and when.
