I don't know if this has been reported and discussed but... I think this falls under the cathegory "What-the-heck-are-Gibson-thinking?!".

You know that the X stands for eXcrement
I found that out at the NAMM trade show this year, after I played one.

Why was the 5th fret so important that it needed an X?

Re: Gibson, WTF?!
The only reasonable explanation I could think of is that the original draughtsman who came up with the concept for the guitar put a black cross on his drawing to indicate that it was rubbish, but someone along the line accidentally slipped it into the approved pile and the cross was assumed to be a design featuremisterfolkertsma wrote:Why was the 5th fret so important that it needed an X?

If i dipped my finger in a pot of honey and pulled it out, it would look the same(was gonna go down the "her special time of month" route but thats Randy's territory).
I think it's so the demographic that this guitar is aimed at know where the A5 powerchord is. All the songs that get played on these will be played there, two frets higher and two frets lower.misterfolkertsma wrote:Why was the 5th fret so important that it needed an X?

However, this is such a blasphemy by Gibson that it SHOULD resurface every six months just to remind them, and the rest of the world, what a crime to humanity they are responsible for!
