Me too, once you add the price of new knobs and a re-tolex job, will it still be a good deal?

Anyways, you'll have your back to it most of the time so who cares :D

Any good large electronics store will probably have the knobs you need for cheap...

I'd hold off on retolexing... just get it and play it for a bit before you sink too much money into it... I'd even go so far as saying if it really bugs you, spray paint the wood orange for the time being....

I'll probably clean it up and trade it for a head-only to make life a little easier... I think I can do that and come out reasonably ahead on the deal still.

I spent about half an hour working the amp out today, really happy w/ channel 2... surprising amount of gain on tap.

I was VERY impressed at how well it responded to differences in pick-attack and the like. I love when you can really make it "bark" it got darker than I thought it would, and while the OD is certainly "smooth" it's never civilized, a bit of caged animal, almost, but never out of control. the only thing missing is clean headroom, which is near-zero it seems.

also really appreciate how truly analog the MV is... certainly has a nice ramp, but you can actually get the volumes down to something sane and family-friendly really easily, give it a quarter-turn and it gets all sorts of fun all sorts of fast. It'll easily do everything I'll ever need that the TV won't do.

I also spent about the same amount of time with their TV in drop-D... dang I love that amp!!!!!!

however, my first offer was not accepted his counter leaves us $100 apart...

will probably call tuesday to try again and if not see if he'll meet me half way.

seriously looking forward to my first "real" (tube) amp!!!!!

I believe that's called the "Ike Turner Doctrine". He played Oranges, right?

You could always pull the chassis and speakers out of the combo cab to ship it to a place to re-tolex. Easy and fast enough to do. Just put them somewhere safe and out of reach. Save you a TON on shipping (pun intended). If it bugs you enough to want to do it, I'm sure you will. I've seen the knobs on eBay.

that's how I'm pricing it out... a stripped cabinet for shipping...

Not a head, but they did make an AD30R 2x12 combo. Guitar Center website has one used...
