Ebony or Goldtop?

Post by savage8190 » Tue Dec 13, 2011 7:25 pm

Inquiring minds want to know...(I may be going through poll withdrawal).

Played a really nice Ebony Traditional and a really nice Goldtop...and I hate burst tops.

I don't know which I would choose if I had a hole burning in the ol' pocket.

I vote for goldtop, even though my LP is ebony. I only like ebony on the customs for some reason. I love the look of gold tops on standards/traditionals etc.

I completely agree with Icarus. If it's a Standard, go gold top. If it's a Custom, go Ebony. I think the Custom's gold hardware on black looks much better than chrome on black. The pin-striped binding on the Custom helps it pop a bit more too.

But gold top all the way on a Standard.

Well, I normally like Ebony better on everything...but then I like the goldtop too and Ebony IS available on everything, where gold is not.

Im probably one of the few that cant stand the look of the Customs...too blingy :). I think its the pinstripe binding and the marker on the first fret that really throw me off.

I'm gagging for an ebony classic custom...

chrome hardware, pinstriped (custom-style) binding.

$1899 @ GC...

I would normally pick black over gold in any other situation but with LPs its not so straight forward....

So I'll pick a Burst please

ahem...Goldtop...

I do like Ebony Standards/Traditionals though. Ebony with Soapbars is also a nice look. I don't care for Customs or Bursts for the most part.

I find bursts are much more difficult to find tastely done.

It's got to be subtle for me, and they're rarely done like that.

Goldtop for me - I hated them, but they've grown on my over the years.
