yeah, i wonder what the reasoning behind that is anyways. does AD supposedly stand for something?

I've read that the AD range was named that way for their designer, Ade Emsley. They could've stuck to the trad Orange naming convention and called them OR30 or something, but then I guess they were new designs and the company was taking a new direction so they wanted to differentiate them from the old Oranges.

For me, Orange's modern naming choices are often a bit weird and confusing for those who aren't familiar with the brand. For example, the Thunder 30 and Rocker 30 aren't really that close to the similarly-named Thunderverbs and Rockerverbs, so why didn't they come up with totally different names for them?

as soon as I typed that, i was guessing AD(e) Emsely. doh! makes perfect sense.

and i agree with their naming choices...if anything, the Thunder 30 should've been named the Rocker 30 (as it's closer to the Rockerverb series in tone), and the Rocker could've been the OR30.

Man, I almost wish I'd never asked. I think I've listened to every AD30 video on youtube and now I just want it more. From the clips it sounds great!

Scratch the new neck...this is the final nail that has convinced me to throw the Tele on the block.

Played the AD30 again today...and it is wicked!

Locked myself away in one of the rooms at Long & McQuade with an AD30 head, Mesa 2x12, and an LP Traditional...it was just what I was hoping for. It reacts similarly to my AC, but is thicker sounding, and has some seriously nice fuzzy tones on tap. I thought the two channels would be more similar too, but they weren't, and I was glad for that. I love my pedals, but this is the first setup Ive ever played that made me think I could do without anything. The cleans are there, the gain is there, the fuzz is there...I didnt even miss the reverb.

Id love to have that LP too...its the same one I played last time when I was looking for 335's. Maybe if I sell all my gear.....

The LP Traditional is one thick sounding guitar thats for sure and the volume level they give off un-amplified is amazing...love mine to death

Honestly its the first time (at home low levels) that I've felt the need to use the FAC control on my OR, which is basically a variable bright channel knob... but then I do normally like a full fat sound anyways.

Where would you say the Thunderverb 50 and 200 would lie on the compressed vs. uncompressed list of Oranges?

Went and played it again, and I still really liked it. How does it take pedals though? Is it typically picky like all the other Oranges I've played? Not really worried much about gain pedals as it seems I could get anything I want out of it without them...but modulation? And how does a good boost hit it? I dont use loops in my other amps so running to the front is the norm for me.


As an aside...I think I'm gonna have to find a way to make this gear combo happen. Every time I go home after playing the AD with the Traditional I cant get that sound and feel out of my head. Ive been thinking of cutting down again to just 2 guitars that I really love (already have the 335)...I may actually sell off more stuff to get these two things. I'd be very satisfied with 2 guitars and 2 amps. The AD could replace the AC, the traditional could replace my Studio...I can dump the Charvel...hmmmmm, I see a plan forming.

Gotta get in there and play them a few more times...

If you like the fat necks I don't see how you can go wrong with a Traditional...

I often wonder if the AD would be the answer (to a more usable at lower volume than an OR) for me.

my experience is that the AD series seems to be the most pedal friendly of the modern oranges.
