Bass Terror in ad200-style head enclosure or rack mount?

Post by Mike M » Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:38 am

Please forgive me if this question has been asked before...

Is there any chance, or any rumor, that the Bass terror 500 or 1000 could be available in a regular ad200-style orange head enclosure or maybe even a rack mount? Thanks for any info

I highly doubt it, though you'd be able to remove the chassis from the enclosure and make your own DIY rank mount if you wanted!

There have been some instances of Tiny Terror owners making head cases for their amps, but neither a head case nor a rack mount would work for the Terror Bass. A head case would definitely not work because of the side mounted jacks for the DI and effects loop. Even assuming that you could get angled plugs for use of the DI and effects loop jacks in a rack case, those side mounted jacks would get in the way of any detachable rack ears that could be fitted.

I seem to remember the cooling fan being mounted on the side as well...

I was thinking more attaching the chassis to a rack shelf with space on either side - a Bass Terror isn't wide enough to fill a standard rack without space anyway! I've done this with a couple of amp heads that weren't rack-specific.

Hadn't thought of that Teddy, but that may well work. Only thing to work out there is a way to strap it down so it isn't bouncing off the walls of the rack during load-ins and load-outs.

What I did with my previous bass head was unscrew the feet and bolt the chassis to a rack shelf through the existing holes - no banging around then! I'm not familiar with the construction of the Bass Terror as I never opened mine up, but I'm sure there'd be some way of securing the Bass Terror in a similar manner. Just takes a bit of ingenuity if you're not willing to drill new holes in the enclosure! ;)

Personally, I would leave the amp the way it is. It is going to produce heat- and that heat needs somewhere to go away from the components. Racking it or putting it in a sleeve of some sort will compromise this.... to what extent, I don't know, but I'd be wary.

Yeah, I'd definitely leave a good few rack spaces above it or add a fan at the back of the rack if I were to do this personally.

Looks like the fans cross ventilate across the transistors so as long as you leave some space for air flow on the sides and leave the rack open while you use it, it should be fine. You could always add an additional fan but setting it to blow air in would only work if you set it on the side with the intake fan.

I'm not a big fan of that idea  .

Thank you, Orange!

The OB1K is exactly what I had in mind. In fact, it's better because of the blend control.

Yes...can't wait to get my hands on one of these new amps!
