OR50H

Post by bcole » Thu Nov 24, 2011 11:15 pm

Just watched guitarworld video review of the OR50h. Does it really sound that much better than oranges other amps or was it just the cab and mix and etc?

Well Randy took my answer!

But, I'll elaborate more.............I personally thought the guitarworld demo made the amp sound like total a ss. It sounds much better than that when I play it. Paul, scoops all the mids and just generally sucks the tone out of it IMO. If you like 80's hair metal, then I guess Paul is o.k, as he somehow managed to make the OR50 sound like an 80's amp.

I still haven't been able to make my OR sound that bad.

No offense OP, but thought I'd share.
Sincerely,

I was amazed at how good that amp sounded. Epi LP custom being played through it and it just floored me. Does anyone know a place that sells those? Did they reissue those or are there just old ones?

EQ aside it is easy enough to get the gist of the tone that amp is capable of in that video. The balls, warmth, and drive of that amp just don't sound like any of the others. That thing breathes.

The OR50 was only made in 2008, and a total of 400 units were produced.

Wow, I just watched the video for the first time and I have to tell you, if I had seen that, I may never have tried, or purchased my OR50.
If you liked that video, wait till you try the real thing. It sounds much better than that. I agree with ironlung40, I can't get mine to sound that bad.

They're really nice amps - more aggressive sounding than the AD series, but it depends what you like in terms of amp sounds. I like them both, but won't be shifting my AD any time soon...

Guitarworld demoes make all amps sound like ass, I don't know why they even keep doing them as their Youtube videos are justifiably full of negative comments. Check out ProGuitarShop's demos for far more accurate representations of most of the Orange lineup!
