Free new album, blatant self promotion.

Post by tspaceman3 » Sat Oct 22, 2011 7:17 am

Hi,

I’m sorry about the blatant self promotion, I hope it is within the rules of the forum, if not I apologise and will remove my post.

My band has a new album available free through http://www.theagonaltrace.bandcamp.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or from our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/theagonaltrace" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The guitars on the album (thinline tele & 335 copy) were recorded using an Orange AD15 a Vox AC15H1TV. The violins were also recorded through an Orange AD30. Have a listen and grab a copy while they are free if you like it.

Here’s our propaganda

Describing the music of The Agonal Trace is no easy task; their sound is certainly unique. With songs ranging from the visceral (Club Nautico, Panic Room, A Devil’s Chaplain) to the sublimely melodic (Lying In The Flood, The Bells) and all places between. A vague approximation would be to describe them as a combination of The Velvet Underground and Spiritualized with a bit of Nick Cave and Talking Heads thrown in for good measure.

The Album

The eponymous debut album by The Agonal Trace features definitive studio recordings of songs honed on the live circuit. The album is a fantastic document of a band at the height of their powers. It opens with the pulsating, hypnotic rush of Club Nautico, sounding something like Charles Bukowski ranting over a beefed up Spacemen 3. The Poisoning follows with its ravaged lyrics, crashing guitars and hook-laden chorus. Then Smiling Now spirals in, all narcotic and heart broken, while The Heart Of Darkness and Lying In The Flood are packed with lush melodies and tight arrangements. Automat is an atmospheric journey into the Edward Hopper painting of the same name. Automat fades and melts into A Devil’s Chaplain, a song full of churning de-tuned violins and spewed lyrics delving into the kind of territory populated by The Velvet Underground’s Black Angel’s Death Song or Suicide’s Frankie Teardrop. Searching follows and is a huge, yearning, symphonic plea; storms brew lyrically and musically as it builds to a spectacular climax. The Bells brings everything back down to earth with its haunting refrain and melancholy tenor it drags the listener into a bleak future world. The album closes with the spectacular Panic Room, a live favourite made of twisting guitar lines, shimmering violins and huge choruses. The song builds until it can no longer be contained, ultimately exploding from the speakers in a fittingly visceral conclusion to the album.

The album was recorded and produced by The Agonal Trace and mastered by Russ Russell. Physical copies are available from our Facebook site or it can be downloaded from Bandcamp.com
