+1.

Did you ever call Orange themselves scarper? If not I'd do that now. They are usually very helpful with both amp problems and unhelpful dealers. As mentioned before don't just rely on e-mail though - call them!

I have requested a new amp as the tech is either too stupid to fix it or a liar.

The store has advised me that because too much time has passed they won't exchange and it will be up to the supplier.

Fantastic, I guess I'll be writing to them and the department of fair trading if I don't get a newie.
You really should just get in contact with Orange, seriously.

If the dealer is rubbish, I would contact the supplier direct.

Have you tried to contact Orange straight on?

Where is that crappy shop of yours? In the UK?

I like happy endings (and spam free thread, which looks to be a rarity just today!)!

How did that happen? Did you just contact Orange directly?
We still want the name of that dreadful shop of yours - wouldn't want to spend my cash there.

I'm in Sydney, no point ringing orange.

The boys in the shop went into bat for me, I am very appreciative.

They could have easily made me go the long way but they didn't. They just wanted to see a bloke enjoy his music, good on em I say.

I know they initially said no, but they offered me a new one a day after the initial discussion.

Oh a no !!!

Almost 12 months to the day of receiving my replacement amp and it karks it.

Normal volume, then low volume, normal volume and so on until nothing, on both channels, all output tubes glowing away.

Has always been warmed up and warmed down and has only had only studio use, and not much use at all this year.

So back to the repair guy (local guy, not in Melbourne), hopefully he can fix it without too much drama. If it's a tube or some other consumable item then I can forgive that, anything else and I think I'll take the hint.

Hmmm... that's a bit odd. Preamp valve problems don't usually lead to fuses blowing. I don't know what is up either, but I do suspect there may be something more going on there.

Problem is now that you have had an independent tech work on the amp your Orange warranty is probably void. I hope things work out. Yeah, fingers crossed on that!

Bright side is that there is nothing in a relatively simple valve amp which can't be either fixed or replaced to get it working well and reliably. However it does mean that the tech has to be able to identify the actual problem before they can fix it.

Do please keep us posted on how it goes!

Hi Andy,

Warranty is only 12 months here in OZ, so fingers crossed.

If I flog it I can only afford another PRC amp (or probably a cheaper one like a blackstar, which I think is Korean) so I guess I'll have to keep it.

Maybe I can live with an 18watt H&K amp coz I feel let down by Orange at the moment.
