339 vs 335?

I never found my Vox AC30/ES335 combination "boomy". In fact my 335 is brighter than my PRS.

You sure you were not adding cut? That knob works in reverse.

335's are usually pretty well balanced guitars... so it seems odd your finding they have so much bass. Somethings not right there for sure. An all maple guitar with a poplar core should never be considered bassy

Yeah I know its in reverse...I have a Vox. I think there must have been something very off on those 335's...or maybe something was wrong with the amp. There's just no way there should have been that much bass. Could there have been something worng with a tube or a pot or something that would do that?

Anyway, Im not writing off 335's or the handwired Vox just yet...Ill go to another store and try more out.

There it is. Handwired Vox. I've found them much bassier than the CC's or original models. That might be it right there? My handwireds an Ef86 model and it's dark and bassy as can be. Closer to an Orange than anything in my opinion.

The shop by my house has a custom shop 335 with a fat neck in stock. I played it against a casino a sheraton a 157 and a 339 it was without a doubt the best sounding of the bunch and I dont really like humbuckers. I have been so stuck on a custom shop 335 with a fat neck and a p90. like a 335 jr.

Well, I was really liking the looks of the handwired's, and I didn't want to believe you, but you are very right sir! I went back and tried out two more 335's, both of them through a vox handwired, and then through the C2 (which I own). I found the handwired amps to be boomy as hell just like last time...and the one with the blues was the worst of the two. Through the C2 both 335's were perfectly balanced sound wise...of course, this just makes things more difficult, because the 335 is just more money....

The good thing I suppose is that I am still perfectly happy with my Vox, so that gas is relieved.

I've been thinning the herd though for this 335...it may come sooner than Id hoped. I made what was a tough call at the time and I'm down to 2 guitars now, and I dropped 2 more pedals. I'm actually happier having less right now, I think "my" sound is really emerging now and I'm only keeping what I need.

I think you are making the right decision. I tried the 339 in GC the other day because I always assumed that it was brilliant: ES-335 sound and looks in a LP package? Total win. But when I started to play it I realized that the smaller body size really killed a lot of the jazzy mojo and deep woody tones I like from a good 335. It mad me sadfaced . The experience did, however, set me on the path that led me to my Guild, so I am very happy about that!

Have you looked into a Guild Starfire IV or a Heritage 535?

I did really like the 339, but yeah, it has its own sound and is not a replacement for a 335. I wouldn't mind having both one day, but I think between the 335 and my LP that ground is covered.

I have played a couple Guilds and I was close to picking one up...I can't remember which one it was but it was a full hollow body, but was still nice and thin. A really sweet guitar for sure, but I've always had my heart set on a Gibby.
