PPC212 or OB
I ordered a PPC212 but was sent a PPC212-OB. So I don't know whether to send it back to be replaced with a PPC212, or to ask for a refund for the price difference.
Which one would be better for recording in a smallish (3m x 3m) room?

Re: PPC212 or OB
From what I gather (I only own the PPC212), it's not a matter of the room size, but more of what you want to record and what sound you want to get.
The PPC212 is boomier I understand the the OB212, with a tighter, more pronounced low end.
The OB212, however, is said to spread the sound better, the reason why it's often recommmanded for small pub/bar/club gigs.
If you're metal head, your recording might benefit from a PPC212, otherwise I think it'll be very much a case a "same, same, but different".
And that said, I now wanna go back to thailand.

Re: PPC212 or OB
That's what I thought. I'm not too fussed about the sound spreading, I'm more concerned about the low end. I do play metal (Rockerverb 100) but it's more like sludgy metal, e.g. Mastodon etc.
Re: PPC212 or OB
for what its worth, i had the ppc212 ob and i found that it had a much more pronounced bottom end when it was in a live in road case that essentially made it a closed cab. it didn't sound bad when it was out of the case, it just didn't sound as tight and defined. i sold it off for a 4x12 cab, partly because i wanted that tight and defined sound with a bit more spread than 2 speakers.

If you're playing sludge type metal you will probably prefer the closed back 2x12.

Re: PPC212 or OB
You definitely want the PPC212. It sounds better than and as large as many other makes 412. That's why you ordered it. Best to buy locally.

Re: PPC212 or OB
For your purposes I agree with everyone, closed back for metal.
I'd rather have the OB myself (owned the PPC212 closed back and sold it, too tight and directional for me), but I play indie rock kind of stuff.

The OB is a bit smaller and lighter. Easier to wrestle into the back seat of a car!

Re: PPC212 or OB
I have the PPC212-CB and it is definitely directional. The bottom end is nice and tight, but the cab is also awkwardly huge for one person to carry. The PPC212-OB is apparently much more manageable to carry since it is narrower.
You could ask to have the difference in price refunded and just make a fill panel for the PPC212-OB to close up the back when/if you want to. Maximum versatility rulez!

Re: PPC212 or OB
my ppc212 is HUGE, weighs 61lbs and is very bulky
I need it for ultra heavy downtuned rock that I play, no bands I like that are heavy rock play open back really
if you dont play that then go with the open back cab, it is for emo/indie/alternative and weighs 15lbs less, less directional

Yeah I was wondering about those 410's too. They have been out for some time now, and I haven't come across any comments - good or bad.Y0UNGBL00D wrote:one of these days i want a 212OB.

There is nothing like a fender clean, but there is nothing like an orange crunch
Re: PPC212 or OB
Personal preference.
Open back will have looser low end, sound less directional and focused, and the speakers are set diagnally which is probably better than blasting your ankles away. Its also lighter and much less cumbersome.
The closed back will be tighter, more consistant QC.
Sludge metal would probably be better with an open back for that low end really.
Closed backs sound tighter because air cant move as freely inside the cabinet so the speaker cant exturse fully.

Re: PPC212 or OB
Have anyone ever tried to modify OB to CB with selfmade rear panel? Any comments?
The OB cabinet is slightly smaller than CB, so I just wonder does the closing up affect on sound?
I'm getting PPC212 OB to go with my AD30TC Combo (size really matters), and will find out the difference..
