Re: How Much Do You Practice?
Well, I don't practice enough. When you get older, have a fulltime job, wife, maybe kids, lots of work on the house has to be done...
But since I broke my wrist and couldn't play at all for 4months I practice more than I used to....
My home rig is my Rocker30 combo and if needed I can hook up my TT through that speaker, so I have an inspirational sound.....
I used to play in 4 bands, so I had rehearsels every evening of the week and a show in the weekends, my playing was superb then. Since the lady came in I quit 2 bands

I aim for 10 hours a week...can be hard with the wife and kids sometimes, but outside of them I really have no life any more so that helps .

Re: How Much Do You Practice?
As a youngster I would practice for hours at a time...
and thinking I'd not been playing long untill looking at clock to realise two hours had easily passed.
Most practicing I do these days is usually before a gig or just for pleasure...
I'd try to practice lead without looking, just listening and feeling my way around the fretboard or make a tune in my head and see if I could hit it.

Re: How Much Do You Practice?
What do we consider practice? Because I go to practice with my band twice a week for 3 1/2 hrs, but I don't always have time to practice at home. So I'm kinda with Bayta and Wired.

Re: How Much Do You Practice?
In high school and college I probably played three to four hours a day, mostly for study breaks. Now I'm lucky if I play for 20 minutes every couple weeks. I don't think I've lost much other than my calluses.

Is it a big surprise that 63% of Forum Users practice less than 30 minutes a day?

Re: How Much Do You Practice?
55hrs-ish a week, 3 kids (one more en route), 2 soccer teams, house to keep up, and other hobbies makes it tough.
I usually get in an hour or more when I do play, but its not every day...

Most times over 8 hours. Especially during the summer. But sometimes it's 5-8 hours depending on what I have going on

You actually practice guitar over 8 hours a day!?NEW JUDAS wrote:Most times over 8 hours. Especially during the summer. But sometimes it's 5-8 hours depending on what I have going on

I'm with you on this one. There's no way I could be in a cover band. If I didn't write songs I wouldn't even bother owning a guitar. Not saying there's anything wrong with covers. I just rarely enjoy playing them.I've tried different practice routines, learning scales, but I get bored really quickly. I even get bored playing other peoples songs nowadays...

Re: How Much Do You Practice?
Yeah, man. I've ran 3 marathons so far, and countless 5k and 10k's. I want to try a triathlon next, but I'm having trouble finding the time to bike, run, and swim. I don't have a good bike either, and If I get enough money for one, I'll likely buy another Orange.myboss57 wrote:You run marathons!? I love running! I've done a couple marathons, and am doing the New York one in November! Awesome to find another runner here.ironlung40 wrote:I contradict myself so much with so many different activities, that I don't have a set regimen. I play a lot in bursts, and then have a lot of down time. I run marathons, kayak, backpack, snowboard, etc, etc, so sometimes my playing has to take a backseat. As the weather gets colder, I find that I play a lot more.
I wish I was just a full-time hippie stoner rocker though, and that I didn't like anything else but playing my guitar and mind expansion, but I'm just a jack of all and a master of none I guess.
When I do practice, I usually just go through my minor pentatonic scales, and add some blues licks to those.
If I had to put an average on it in a 7 day week, I'd say less than 30mins per day, as I miss a day or two usually. Now I'm figuring out why I suck.
Cool, to know someone else who runs too. Why do we do it?
Re: How Much Do You Practice?
Awesome! Yeah, I think sometimes it keeps me sane, other times it's because I'm a masochist! I've done 4 marathons, 1 half, and I'm with you on the countless 5ks. I'm kind of in the same boat on the triathlon time-wise. It'd be a nice knot on the belt, but I'm not sure I'll ever have the time to devote to it. Even my running I don't really try to develop - I just like the simplicity of being able to go out and be alone for awhile and just run.ironlung40 wrote:Yeah, man. And yup, extra cash must only go towards gear - or tattoos. haha.
