Orange Cabs - Which one should I get for a TH30?
Hello Orangers,
I recently bought a Thunder 30 and now I can say I've finally found happiness. It's an awesome amp and I love the neverending amount of gain it has.
Now it's the time for me to get a cab, but I'm not sure which one should I get. I play mostly metal, and I really don't know if should get the PPC212 or the PPC412, or the HP-8. I can also get a second hand 4x12 Diezel Rearloaded for about the same price as a Orange 4x12, but I would like to know some opinions before. Since it's gonna be my definitive equipment, I want to be sure of taking the right choice.
Any idea would be appreciated and considerated.
Thanks in advance!

I would get a Avatar Contemporary 412 or 212. Have the same look as a ppc but you can choose what speaker you want... I suggest 2-g12h and 2-v30 or g12m. You can also pick the color and grill cloth. Plus they are half the price of a ppc.
I really like the sound of a 412 compared to a 212. Sounds more open to me. I have recently grown fond of my friends open back ppc212. hopefully I helped and didn't just rant.

You know you want the PPC412, so go with it. I don't see the point of the HP cabinet with a 30 watt amp. Those cabs are really designed for the TV200 to handle that power. You want to be able to push your speakers some, so go with the V30's in the PPC412. If you play metal, then the V30 is probably more your sound anyway, or at least the speaker you're hearing in a lot of the music you're listening too.

I think you would find that pushing 7.5 watts into each G12K-100 in the HP cab would not really get those speakers to come to life. The Vintage 30s would react a bit better since they do have more distinctive voicing to begin with. You might be able to mix in some G12H-30s with V30s for metal, but I think G12M-types would not really work that well for your style.

Yep, I also think that 30 watts it's not enough for that big cabinet (HP-8). And if I get the 212 it's gonna be: "it sounds great, so the 412 must be even better!", so I'll go finally for the PPC412.
Thanks a lot for the comments, guys.

good choice on the 412. i got a 212 when i first got my head, thinking it would be easier to carry and that i didnt really need 4 speakers...but that was really only my justification because i didn't want to shell out the cash for a 412, which really was what i wanted. 4 months later, my 212 was sold on craigslist and now a nice new 412 is sitting under my head.

Yeah you have to follow your own mentality. If bigger is better for you mentally, even if it isn't practical, then go with it anyway, because you'll just be wanting more later anyway....just don't loose you home over it.

Orange cabs are just a name. Don't sound good at all IMO. Go Bogner or Boogie. Or for half price go Avatar.

Another good cab making company is Whitebox cabs. I personally thing they are better than avatar, but that's just from looking at each of their websites for a few minutes.

the PPC412's sorta become an industry standard for metal...i would still go for it if you can. if you're short on funds though, i wouldn't lose any sleep over deciding to get an avatar or a whitebox. i'd imagine quality's about the same between those two, but i just love how many options avatar gives you over whitebox.

If you're worrying over money, you can't go wrong with Avatar for sure. I don't know anything about whitebox, though.

cheesy and superficial? maybe. that most hard rock bands use 412s? likely. that you could break your back by lifting a 412 by yourself? Yess!! at 110lb of pure bulkiness you bet ur bottom dolla it will make u holla

I don't see the "most metal and hard rock bands using Orange cabs" Where are they guys? I still see mostly marshall cabs everywhere I look.

Re: Orange Cabs - Which one should I get for a TH30?
I have used Marshall, Avatar, Randall, Jackson and Orange cabs. Orange factory cabs are the best, period. Build and materials. Why do most musicians you see play thru Marshall cabs, two reasons -- backlines -- Marshall cabs in quantity and rentals are numerous, and if its your cab-- marshalls are lighter, easier to replace -- a dime a dozen.
