Thinking about swapping my PPC412 out for a PPC212
Going to be moving and something a little smaller in size wouldn't be such a bad idea, but the money I'd be getting on top of the 212 would help out a lot right now. I really love the huge sound I get out of the 412 with my RV100, and I don't want to be disappointed. The 212 is closed back. What differences will I notice?

having played neither cab, i would venture to say the sound from the 212 will be a bit more directional, and the spread won't be as much. it won't sound as full, but in my experience 212s done right sound pretty close to 412s tonally. that's why i've never felt the need for a 412.

Volume wise it wpn't change much at all, but the 412 has an extra row of speakers higher than on the PPC212, which helps with hearing your tone more like it is, ie: not at calf's height.
This said, I have a PPC212, and it sounds bloody huge!!!!!!

Re: Thinking about swapping my PPC412 out for a PPC212
I think it's a good move. Back when I lived with my parents and was able to have money, I had a Rocker 30 with an Orange 4x12. I found the 4x12 too much of a pain in the ass to load to and from practice many times a week and decided to buy a 2x12 for practicing purposes (but keep the 4x12 for shows). I actually fell in love with the 2x12 more than the 4x12, I sold off the 4x12 not long after. It met all my volume needs and was a bit punchier tone-wise. I miss that cab but sold it when I needed the money badly. Someday, I hope to own one again.

kinda tinkering with this idea as well....
would kinda suck since i have a roadcase for it though. maybe i can find someone with a roadcased 212 to trade + cash.

I have a RV100 and had the 212 for a while - sound was enormous and just fine. Sure, the 412 is obviously going to be a larger rig sonically, but not too noticeably imo. And as far as being able to monitor yourself with the 212, just stack it on top of something or turn it sideways (this is what I did) and then you'll be good to go.

I'm personally not a fan of the PPC212 closed back cab. It's SUPER directional. I used to have one but sold it a few weeks after I got it. I'd probably rather have the open back model. I haven't played the PPC412 so I don't know how different that and the CB 2x12 are, but I'm guessing the 4x12 has a much better sound spread.

Re: Thinking about swapping my PPC412 out for a PPC212
Be aware that the Orange PPC212 closed back is physically massive for a 2x12. It makes most other 2x12s look weedy, when mine first arrived I was a bit shocked by it. I've owned both the PPC412 and PPC212, and I can say neither is a convenient lift and both have a similar footprint, so if you are downsizing to save space or looking for an easier time moving stuff then I'd question your decision. I can also say I thought the 4x12 sounded better.
Have you considered the open backed version? It's physically smaller, it might also spread the sound a bit more. I've seen quite a few people with RV combos say they like the open back sound.

I know they're still quite large. That's not too big an issue. I suppose at this time I really just need the extra $. But at least I'm pretty sure I won't be disappointed with it based on all the comments. I'm sure I'll miss my 4x12 but it's not like they're going anywhere, I can always pick another one up some day. Thanks guys!

The 212 is very direction and still very bulky and heavy. It is a deep amp. I tried a 412 and a 212 and didn't hear much difference. Went with the 212 because of size, cost, and weight.
Re: Thinking about swapping my PPC412 out for a PPC212
I have the tv50 and PPC212 based on recommendations from this forum
it is awesome! most bands use a 412 but I never would cause orange 412 is insanely heavy and cant really be lifted by a single person, say good bye to your discs!
the 212 is no picknic for weight at 61lbs and it is really bulky too. but it weighs as much as most 212 cabs and I need closed back and high wattage type pro stuff. bonus is that turn it on its side and the dimensions are the same as the head for the most part, so it looks killer sideways and sounds great and closer to my ears without destroying my hearing tooooooo

Just got home a little bit ago with the 212. I like it. It has a very different feel, but I'm not disappointed. I can still crank it, and it's plenty loud. Doesn't feel like there's quite as much low end as I had with my 412, but I can live with that. I look forward to being able to pick up another 412 some day and then have a 3/4 stack. I used to want a full stack, and that would totally be badass, but it would just be a bigger sound. With both the 412 and 212 I feel like I'd be able to still have a huge wall of sound AND have the sonic strengths of each of the cabs to provide a bit of a different sound than 2 412's. Just my theory anyway. We'll see.

cool thing was, the guy I made the trade with had a white matamp and so I got to try that out. It was fun.

Those Vintage 30s should be well broken-in if they guy was using the Matamp with that cab. I have to think it would get a lot of playing time at loud volumes .

Ya, the cab sounds great. When I first got home I was too busy noticing the differences between my old 412 and the new 212. I played it again last night for a couple hours and completely fell in love with it. I am happy with my decision.
Also, I was lucky enough to get $ AND a boss dd-5 in the deal, any of you use this delay with a rockerverb? do you prefer it thru the loop or the front? I haven't tried it thru the loop yet. I need to pick up a 9v or another one spot so that I can use it AND my tu2.
